❗ Throwback Thursday ❗

Gemini said
Prurigo Nodularis (PN) is a distinct neuroimmune disease defined by chronic itch, dermal fibrosis, and neural hypertrophy, often presenting as firm nodules in scratch-accessible areas. Unlike atopic dermatitis, PN is strongly associated with systemic comorbidities like metabolic disorders and depression, requiring a multidisciplinary approach. Breakthrough biologics targeting type 2 inflammation and IL-31, such as dupilumab and nemolizumab, have revolutionized care by rapidly breaking the itch-scratch cycle and clearing lesions.

❗ Throwback Thursday ❗

The International Eczema Council (IEC) recently hosted a global symposium detailing atopic dermatitis as a systemic inflammatory disease that requires highly personalized management. Experts discussed the necessity of adapting diagnostic criteria for diverse populations, noting that clinical presentations often vary by age and ethnicity, such as the unique morphologies seen in skin of color.

The session also reviewed advancements in targeted therapies, including biologics and JAK inhibitors, while emphasizing the importance of overcoming therapeutic inertia to improve long-term patient outcomes and manage infection risks.

❗ Throwback Thursday ❗

The International Eczema Council (IEC) recently highlighted how single-cell and spatial transcriptomics are transforming our understanding of atopic dermatitis (AD). These technologies have revealed that fibroblasts play a critical, underappreciated role in driving Th2 inflammation and skin barrier disruption. Furthermore, the application of minimally invasive "tape stripping" now allows researchers to track molecular biomarkers in both infants and adults, facilitating longitudinal monitoring and more personalized therapeutic strategies.

❗ Throwback Thursday ❗

The International Eczema Council (IEC) recently held a symposium in Milan on tailoring atopic dermatitis (AD) treatments to diverse populations. AD presents differently based on age and ethnicity; for example, infants primarily show Th2 activation, while adults exhibit Th1 and Th22 pathways.

Research also shows higher AD prevalence in skin of color populations, often featuring unique clinical signs like prominent papules. With the rise of systemic treatments like biologics and JAK inhibitors, the IEC emphasizes the need for precision medicine that accounts for a patient's specific genetic and demographic background.

Dear IEC Patients and Care Partners:

As part of a grant-supported initiative, the International Eczema Council invites your participation in a brief survey on atopic dermatitis (eczema). Research shows that patients and physicians often differ in how they interpret symptoms, define treatment goals, and assess impact. In partnership with Pediatric Dermatology Research Alliance (PeDRA) and Global Parents for Eczema Research (GPER), IEC is working to better align these perspectives—and your voice is essential.

If you are a U.S.-based patient with atopic dermatitis or a care partner to an adult or child who is, please consider completing the IEC Patient and Caregiver Survey – Aligning Perspectives on the Definition of Disease Activity Level and Remission. The survey takes just 15 minutes and is open through March 3.

This study aims to strengthen shared understanding of disease control, refine clinical endpoints, and advance patient-centered eczema care worldwide.

Thank you for helping move eczema care forward!
