The JCCC Community Committee will participate in a volunteer beach cleanup organized by the Alliance for the Great Lakes in Chicago.
Each year, approximately 15,000 volunteers take part in beach cleanup efforts to help preserve the beauty of Lake Michigan and protect the environment. JCCC has proudly participated in this initiative annually from 1994 through 2024 and has been recognized as one of the organizations with the highest number of participants. Although we conducted a different volunteer activity last year, we are pleased to resume this beach cleanup in celebration of JCCC’s 60th anniversary.
We warmly welcome both returning participants and those joining us for the first time. Participation is open to both members and non-members, and we look forward to welcoming many of you.
After the Beach Sweep, we are also planning to hold an “Osaka Garden Tour.” (approximately a 20-minute walk from 57th Street Beach)
In 2016, to commemorate our 50th anniversary, we planted 50 cherry trees near the Museum of Science and Industry. In addition, to mark our 60th anniversary this year, we have planted a total of 60 cherry trees over a three-year period. During this tour, we will introduce these planting sites, pass by the area around the Obama Presidential Library, and visit Osaka Garden.
