When Emilyn C. first attended National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) in 2019, she admits her leadership confidence was low—rating herself just 1 out of 10 before the course. But thanks to a Fearless Girls Campership, she gained the chance to grow, lead, and inspire.

“You can’t always do everything yourself—let others help when you need it,” Emilyn shared, reflecting on her biggest takeaway from NYLT. By the end of the week, her confidence had climbed to an 8 out of 10, showing just how much the experience transformed her approach to working with others and leading effectively.

And Emilyn didn’t stop there. She continued her Scouting journey, building her leadership skills year after year. Most recently, she represented our council at the World Scout Moot in Portugal—an international gathering of Scouts from around the globe.

“Moot was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience that left a lasting impression on me,” Emilyn said. “It wasn’t just my first international event—it was the spark that ignited a deeper passion for global connection, cultural exchange, and personal growth.”

It is with great sorrow that we inform you of a tragic incident involving the apparent drowning death of a 15-year-old CIT (Counselor in Training) at Owasippe’s Camp Blackhawk on July 16th.
No other campers or staff were involved or were in danger at any time.
Emergency protocols were followed, law enforcement was called to the scene, and Council leadership and camp staff are cooperating in the ongoing investigation.
We are also taking appropriate measures, including providing grief counseling, in support of the family, campers, and camp staff.

Sending love, hugs, and prayers to those who lost someone, especially to the families of our sister Scouts.

We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of life following the devastating flooding in Central Texas.

Among those lost were members of our Girl Scout sisterhood and their loved ones.
Though miles apart, our hearts are with all those facing unimaginable grief.

May the spirit of those lost live on in the kindness, courage, and love they shared with the world.
