A Step Ahead Chess is a leadership pipeline, not just a game.

Our Coach in Training program trains young people as paid coaches and mentors, alongside licensed educators and connected to their own communities. Virtual coaches earn $20 to $40 an hour, and in person coaches earn up to $80. STORMER. Coach. Mentor. Leader.

Chess should be accessible. For thirteen years we have been closing the gap between where talent lives and where opportunity has lived.

92.5% of our STORMERS are students of color. 2,000+ youth and families reached across Chicago, NYC, Atlanta, D.C., and the Bahamas.

100% high school graduation. 100% college acceptance. $1M+ in scholarships earned.

We are not just a chess program. We are a leadership pipeline.

Registration is open for the school year. Link in bio.

It’s bigger than chess.

Today we had the opportunity to do a chess♟️ demo with a homeschool group, and it was a great reminder of why accessibility matters.

Chess should not feel out of reach, and it should not feel isolating.

At its best, chess is social. It gives kids a chance to think, talk, laugh, compete, connect, and build confidence together.

For families looking for meaningful learning spaces and community, that matters.

When we bring chess into new spaces, we’re not just teaching pieces and moves.

We’re helping open doors and build community.

Our ♟️STORMERS showed up and showed out 🏆🏆🏆

At the end of school year tournament, ASAC♟️had multiple individual winners, and our team earned 1st place in the Advanced Section.

We are proud of the trophies, but even more proud of the growth, confidence, discipline, and community our STORMERS showed throughout the day. These are the kinds of moments that happen when young people are given the chance to compete, learn, and believe in themselves.

If your child is ready for more moments like this, our inaugural ASAC Summer Camp is coming August 3rd through 7th. Early registration pricing is open through May 11th, and families can secure their spot with a $50 deposit. Scholarships for families that qualify.

Our girls showed up and showed out.♟️🏆

Today, our STORMERS competed in the Queens United All Girls Tournament and walked away as champions.

Mille earned a top place trophy, and Mecca took 1st place in the 2nd-3rd grade section. We are so proud of the way they competed, represented, and rose to the challenge.

What makes this even more special is that they were coached by Coach Hannah. We remember when Hannah played in this very tournament, and now she’s coaching champions. That’s what growth looks like. That’s what leadership looks like. That’s what STORMERS do.

And if your child is ready to grow in confidence, competition, and community, don’t forget to register for our inaugural ASAC Summer Camp. Click the link in our comments 👇👇👇 for early registration through May 11th.

Summer just got a lot more exciting. ☀️♟️

We are excited to announce our inaugural A Step Ahead Chess Summer Camp, happening August 3rd through 7th.

This won’t be your typical chess camp. Campers will sharpen their minds through chess and also get to move, explore, and try something new through activities like soccer, squash, boxing, and more.

At ASAC, we believe young people grow best when they are challenged mentally, physically, and socially. This camp is designed to do just that.

Early registration pricing is available through May 11th. Families can secure their spot with a $50 deposit by May 11th and scholarships are available for families that qualify!

Coach of the Quarter: Coach Hannah ♟️🏆

Coach Hannah went above and beyond this quarter! She brings such a great balance of teaching and fun to every lesson, and it shows in how happy and engaged her students are.

She created a review PowerPoint for the last day of classes, made sure every student felt included, and did an amazing job explaining concepts clearly to a much younger private group.

Thank you, Coach Hannah, for all you do! 💙♟️
