Imagine walking through New York City and hearing a version of Spanish preserved for more than 500 years.
For decades, Sephardic Jewish immigrants brought Ladino (Judeo-Spanish) to neighborhoods across East Harlem and the Lower East Side, creating newspapers, businesses, community organizations, and cultural spaces that kept a centuries-old tradition alive.
It's a powerful reminder that immigration isn't just about people moving from one place to another. It's about carrying language, culture, history, and identity across generations.
At IMPACT, we believe stories like these matter because they highlight the diversity of Jewish experiences and help preserve histories that too often go untold.
