You can do it!
"Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes’ Barbie dream house may have it all but it doesn’t have wifi for the kids."
"The proud parents of Esmeralda Amada, 8, and Amada Lee, 7, the Hitch actress and Barbie movie Kensation keep a strictly internet-free home when it comes to their kiddos. In a video uploaded to Instagram Mendes went on the record with her wifi-free policy and why she thinks it’s important to keep her daughters offline for now."
In the video Mendes shakes her head and fingers in disapproval. “When my kids ask me if they’re old enough to go on the internet, social media or anything requiring wifi,” she quipped in the caption. The post predictably got quite the conversation started among fans and fellow parents in the comments.
"We are in the internet century so eventually everyone will need or want to access the internet sorry,” a commenter claimed, prompting Mendes to add, “Yes true, but in my house, children do not have access to the internet. It’s too dangerous. Just like drinking or voting or getting a driver’s license (etc…) isn’t allowed for children, the internet falls under that category for me. Especially social media.”
So when will the Mendes allow her daughters online? While the actress agreed with several parents who suggested opening things up at 18, the mom of two admitted that she wasn’t sure when it would feel right.
"Honestly I don’t know, I’ll have to see where it goes- for now, I’m observing them and keeping up with research about how social media can impact a child’s brain. I’m taking it stage by stage,” she said.
We 100% agree with a slow approach to tech for kids.
✅ Delay when kids have access to the internet.
✅ Delay smartphones with the Wait Until 8th pledge. Consider a basic phone instead a smartphone if you need to get in touch before. We have some on our website.
✅ Delay social media until 16+.
✅ Keep phones and other devices out of the bedrooms especially at night.
