Parent University

Parent University Parent University is a community collaborative that supports families. Enable "parents" to teach each other.

This initiative encourages parent involvement and participation in the education of our community’s children and youth. Maximize student learning by creating a strong bridge between the community and the school. Train "informed parents" to work together with schools to create paths for student success. Provide support, guidance and nuturing to assure the realization of family success.

Need some ideas to fill long summer days? Consider co-creating a "summer menu" with your child. Work together to create a short list of activities that they can choose from each day. Having options within a structure gives kids a sense of safety and predictability. When they know they don't have to fear the unknown or the unexpected, predictability can help to keep the anxiety, distress, and escalation away.

Summer break is just getting started, but this is actually a great time to take care of vaccinations and screenings students will need before school starts in the fall. Several health departments in coastal Georgia are planning school health events this summer - get all the details at CoastalHealthDistrict.org/backtoschool.

If you have a child entering pre-K/Kindergarten, 7th grade, or 11th grade, they may need booster shots. Any child entering a Georgia school for the first time will need an eye, ear, and dental screening. Don't wait - plan now and avoid the school rush later!

☀️ The School's Out Summer Food Drive starts today! ☀️

When school is out, many children lose access to the meals they rely on during the school year. That's why WSAV and Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia are teaming up to collect kid-friendly foods for local children this summer.

We're looking for easy-to-open items that children can safely enjoy on their own, including Chef Boyardee, fruit cups, applesauce pouches, granola bars, juice boxes, peanut butter crackers, and other shelf-stable snacks and meals.

📍 Stop by one of the participating Food Lion locations listed below and help make a difference for children in our community.

🧡 Every donation helps provide meals and snacks for local kids through Second Harvest's summer hunger-relief programs.

Together, we can help fill summer bellies and fuel brighter tomorrows.

That was a wrap on the 2025-26 school year.

From the first session to the last, Parent University was what it's always been. A community of parents who care about their kids and want to do right by them.

To our partners, vendors, volunteers, and every parent who walked through the door this year, this was yours. We just held the space.

Here's to what's next.

Saturday at Johnson High School was a day to remember!

Parent University wrapped up its last session of the school year, and the parents, grandparents, and guardians who have been showing up week after week came out to finish strong. The vendors and community partners who joined them made it that much better.

This is what it looks like when a community decides to invest in its families. We are already looking forward to what next year brings.

This spring, something worth celebrating happened in Liberty County.

Parents and guardians showed up. They sat in the seats, did the work, and crossed the stage at the first-ever Parent University: Liberty County graduation. They showed their kids exactly what it looks like to keep going.

A huge thank you to Liberty County School System and Georgia Southern University for making this possible and believing that when we invest in parents, we invest in the whole family.

This is just the beginning!
