We are so proud of our Garden Club of Savannah Vice President, Era Hall, who represented our club at this year’s Oleander District Awards Banquet, themed “Bluejeans & Boots.” And in true Era fashion, she wore her red boots and got up seven times to receive awards! What a wonderful testament to the dedication and hard work of our club and its members.

One of the most special moments of the evening was Era receiving the Mary Helen Ray Beautification and Preservation Award. This recognition was especially meaningful to her, as Mary Helen was the first person she met when she moved to Savannah and was her next-door neighbor for 22 years. Mary Helen introduced Era to garden events and presentations, helping nurture a love of gardening and community that continues to this day. What a beautiful tribute to a cherished friendship and a lasting legacy.

We are incredibly proud of Era and all she brings to our club and community. From her leadership, including her service as a former NOGS Chair, to her dedication as a Master Gardener and her many contributions to our community and church, Era leads with generosity, grace, and heart.

Congratulations, Era! Your accomplishments make us proud, and the kindness, passion, and commitment behind them make you truly one of a kind. We are so fortunate to have you as a leader and friend!

🎃 One Good Reason: Growing Young Minds, One Pumpkin at a Time! 🌱

October is all about pumpkins in the garden at Jacob G. Smith Elementary School in Savannah!

From learning how pumpkins grow to exploring their gooey “guts” and watching adults carve a classic jack-o’-lantern, students are discovering that the garden is a wonderful place to learn. And the fun doesn’t stop there! The pumpkin seeds are roasted and returned to the school for a crunchy taste test. Yummmm! 😋

This special Master Gardener project, funded in part by a NOGS grant and led by GCS member Janice Insley, brings learning to life by connecting children with plants and food while incorporating hands-on lessons in math and science.

A heartfelt thank-you to Janice and Betsey for partnering with teachers and school administrators to create meaningful experiences that spark curiosity, encourage exploration, and inspire a love of learning.

One good reason to give: helping children grow their knowledge, confidence, and connection to the natural world. 🌱💚
