The implementation of phase-2 of the maternal child health program - Manchichi has started. This program has currently enrolled 27 Ngabe traditional midwives ,22 traditional doctors, and 36 pregnant women. The program focus on the proper prenatal care for women and identification and referral of high risk pregnancies. Phalarope developed the program that started in guatemala and now is been implemented in panama.
This program is posible with a rotary foundation global grant. This is the fourth global grant for our club. Thank you Rotary District 6920, district 4240, clubs from panama and USA that helped bring this proyect to a reality.

We are excited to share with you that our club, the Club Rotario Guatemala Vista Hermosa and Phalarope have received a third global grant from Rotary Foundation. This grant will help guatemalan farmers living in the dry corridor create hydroponic community enterprises. Phalarope has develop the program and will be responsible of the implementation and evaluation. Below are example of the systems that we will build. A vocational team formed by John Wiseman , Rene Cabezas and Miriam Rittmeyer will be responsible of the implementation. We are fortunate to count with Caban Systems who will donate the solar panels.

WHO’s Dr. Rudi Coninx Offers Unique Perspectives


Join the Skidaway Island Rotary Club on March 3rd (5-6pm) for a special international Zoom meeting with Dr. Rudi Coninx. A leading specialist on public health, disaster relief, and humanitarian assistance, Dr. Coninx has been intimately involved with some of the world’s major health issues -- and in challenging hotspots -- for more than 25 years. As both a hands-on medical doctor and policy specialist, he is in a unique position to address the relationship between public health initiatives and international conflict/peace.

A Senior Policy Advisor to the Emergencies Programme of the World Health Organization (WHO), Dr. Coninx provides policy guidance and support for operations in disasters and emergencies. Since 1983, he has worked extensively with humanitarian emergencies in such places as Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Thailand, Cambodia, Sudan, Ethiopia, Mexico, Mozambique, Sri Lanka, and Myanmar. A medical doctor from Belgium, Dr.Coninx graduated from the University of Leuven in 1982 as well as holds a Master’s degree in Public Health from the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health.
