So you think you have a Christmas cactus...
*Thanksgiving Cactus (Schlumbergera truncata):
Typically blooms in late November near Thanksgiving. Leaf segments have pointed edges, resembling small hooks or claws.
*Christmas Cactus (Schlumbergera bridgesii):
Blooms in December around Christmas. The leaf segments (cladodes) have smooth edges with slight scalloping.
*Easter Cactus (Hatiora gaertneri):
Blooms in spring around Easter. The leaf segments are oval-shaped with soft, rounded edges and no sharp points.
Either way, the blooms are beautiful and these are easy to divide and propogate.

All it took was interest from Michelle Mulvehill for WFGC to step up and help clean the Windsor/Largo intersection along side Michelle.
With the help of our President Carrie Dix's husband Colby and son Archer, our w**d fest endeavor was a whirlwind 30 minutes of cleanup. Woo hoo! Thanks to all our amazing volunteers today, the area looks cleaner!
And thank you to all the cars who blew their horns in appreciation and the two ladies who stopped long enough to say thank you! We appreciate that.

The Windsor Forest High School graciously extended an invitation to our club to visit the school today. With the help of community activist, Home Sweet Home Facebook administrator Carol Williamson, Mike Barth, the WFHS family and community resource specialists, a request was made on Facebook which our club was happy to step up and approve to help.
Garden Club members arrived to see the new artificial 12 foot Christmas tree fully decked out!
Some ornaments were made by students on their lunch break. Others were created and donated by a generous teacher with school spirit. She painted them green with the all important white lettering WF KNIGHTS!
Garden Club members walked away with the feeling of being appreciated and respected by the students passing through the lobby, making a point to look at our garden club name tags. They extended their hands in appreciation for the donated tree. Yes, ma'am, no ma'am and thank you! Hearing of member Pat Golas' birthday, students gathered to sing her happy birthday. Who raised these great kids? We thank the families and their teachers. Shout out to Principal Joanna Brooks, also in attendance, who is loved by her students!
We appreciate Grace Rodriguez from WJCL coming out in inclement weather to honor our community work. Our visit will be aired either this evening or tomorrow. Look for it!

FORMER PRESIDENT AND LONG TIME MEMBER "SERVICE" REMINDER from Irene Michaels.

Shirley Lewis passed away November 21, 2025. A Memorial service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church on Saturday December 6, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. located at 12391 Mercy Boulevard Savannah, GA 31419. Her family asked that attendees wear colors instead of black - "Honoring Mom with color" - Windsor Forest Garden Club plans to give her a rainbow! There is one less dedicated and devoted Windsor Forest Garden Club member, former Oleander District Director, Garden Club of Georgia Emeritus and one less warm smile.

Keep in mind this holiday season to be careful on the roads and practice safe travel habits. With extra traffic out there, be patient and kind with other drivers. Be a designated driver when needed. Take extra time to make it there, because we care about you!

We would not have a place to hang our holiday wreaths had it not been for the Windsor Forest Neighborhood Association board from years past, led by former WFGC President, Jackie Haberman. She was instrumental in adding entries with stately brick columns, anchoring fence panels with Windsor Forest lettering and now adorned with holiday wreaths.
Jackie and the WFNA supported our Garden Club with the annual task of taking over wreath placement about 20 years ago.
Thankfully, like Jackie, former WFGC Presidents hold this tradition close to heart. Shirley Lewis, Patricia Patterson, Shirley Goodson, Virginia Zorn Joyner, Cheryl Slusser, Connie Connan, Elizabeth Watts, and now Carrie Dix.
Carrie and volunteers added the tall Berkshire West entry in the median this year.
We give gratitude to today's volunteers for carrying on the tradition!

As we prepare to give thanks for all the wonderful people in our lives, here's a couple that gives their time to support the Ronald McDonald House. Club representatives Chuck and Maia Petty dropped off 20 pounds of pull tabs! They have but one speed. Go! There are approximately 1,267 pull tabs in a pound. Wow! You do the math.
This dynamic husband and wife duo also encouraged club members create and donate 30 toiletry kits for families staying at the RMH, with additional bags of items for the employees and volunteers to pull from.
Bravo to all involved, and Happy Thanksgiving to our wonderful community.

The service for Shirley Lewis will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church on December 6th, at 11am.
