We're excited to share that The Produce News recently featured our work on the U.S. Department of Agriculture Resilient Food Systems Partnership grant!

Over the past year and a half, we’ve had the privilege of working alongside food banks and industry leaders across the Southeast to build a more coordinated and resilient regional food system. Together, we’ve made meaningful strides in logistics planning, middle supply chain coordination and long-term sustainability.

None of this would be possible without our incredible partners, stakeholders, committee members, and the Feeding America Network. We are truly grateful this opportunity and our community. Read the full article to learn more about what we’ve accomplished together, and what’s ahead as we work toward our regional roadmap. We encourage organizations interested in advancing similar work to learn more and apply for the RFSP grant.

What a great day for the ongoing collaboration between the Southeast Regional Cooperative, Inc., Atlanta Community Food Bank, and the Feeding America Network!

The SERC and ACFB recently entered into an agreement establishing a new third-party logistics (3pl) partnership. Work on systems integration has been going on behind the scenes for some time, but Kyle Waide, CEO of ACFB, and Chris Flint, Executive Director of the SERC, made it official last week. With this agreement, the SERC will move its operational 3pl activity also known as our “Mixing Center” from Nickey Gregory Produce to Atlanta Community Food Bank. ACFB will provide critical logistics services to the SERC including cross docking, mixed box production, and other management and production services.

This new partnership will provide substantial savings on services that the SERC provides to Feeding America partners across the region and will ensure that resources vital to the network's mission are deployed within the Feeding America Network. Additionally, this project aligns well with the Feeding America Network Strategic Framework objective – Enhance Food Sourcing and Sharing.

Said SERC Executive Director Chris Flint, “I am grateful to Kyle and his team and the work they have done in preparation for this move, and to Nickey Gregory Company who have been and continue to be wonderful partners in the work we are doing. In addition to providing critical savings to our members in this challenging financial environment, members will also benefit from increased flexibility in the services this relationship will allow us to provide. Atlanta Community Food Bank is a leader in the fight against food insecurity, and we are grateful for this opportunity to work closely with them and expand our collective impact.”

Last week, we attended the Feeding America Annual Leadership Conference in Dallas, TX, joining more than 700 partners from across the country. Centered on “Uniting Communities,” the conference focused on advancing equitable food access, strengthening partnerships, and elevating the voices of neighbors facing hunger, highlighting the collective impact of the Feeding America network and a shared commitment to ensuring dignified access to food for all.

While there, we also hosted a table to connect with partners, share our work, and highlight the power of collaboration across the network. We’re grateful to be included in this meaningful experience and a member of the Feeding America network!

Last week, we had the pleasure of holding our SERC Partnership Meeting & 2nd Food Bank Partner Convening in Orlando, FL, March 10–11th.

It was wonderful to connect with so many partners and spend time in community around the important work ahead. We appreciated the opportunity to share more about who we are, how we can better support food banks, provide updates on our USDA RFSP grant, and collaborate on ways to continue strengthening our network and feeding neighbors in need.

A special thank you to Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida for hosting us, providing a tour, and sharing their space, to Southern Hill Farms, Inc. for welcoming us and providing a tour, beautiful setting, and meal, and to Feeding America for showing up in force and supporting this important work!

We’re incredibly grateful for our food bank and grower partners, and collaborators across the Feeding America network and beyond. Your partnership makes this work possible, and we look forward to continuing the work ahead together.
