The Hardin County Healthcare Foundation

The Hardin County Healthcare Foundation The Hardin County Healthcare Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to the betterment of our community.

Our first major project resulted in the construction of the Darryl Worley Cancer Treatment Center in Savannah, Tennessee; currently we are working toward stemming the tide of drug abuse in our area. This effort includes sponsorship of The Leader in Me Program and the establishment of transitional housing for recovering addicts.

Another newcomer to the Tour of Homes is the property formerly belonging to the family of Dr. Jim Carroll, now owned by Joyce Brown and her daughter, Maegan Blount. Built in 1913 for Hundley and Cornelia Hall Welch, the home features heart pine flooring in many of the rooms as well as a mantle that traveled to Savannah from Paducah, Kentucky by steamboat on the Tennessee River.

The tour is from 1:00 - 5:00 PM, Saturday, December 9th. All proceeds will be used to support drug abuse rehabilitation and prevention in our community.

Another favorite from tours past is White Pillars, the home of Savannah's mayor, Bob Shutt, and his wife, Janie. This magnificent home was constructed in 1874 for the Williams family and remained in their ownership until it was purchased by the Shutts eleven years ago. Two desks and a grandfather clock built by Henry Williams in 1912 were sold with the house and can still be seen there today.

The completely renovated Williams-Bunnell home is new to this year's tour. Currently owned by Steve and Tammy Bunnell, this four bedroom cottage style home was built in 1920 by the Williams family. The home's renovation revealed a number of architectural details that are original to the house as well as artifacts from the Civil War, and the early to mid-1900s. The property's rich history includes the probable location of a Confederate camp used to spy on the Union forces at Cherry Mansion during the Battle of Shiloh. That belief was reinforced by the finding of a Confederate tent stake as well as Civil War ammunition while the house was being remodeled.

Tickets for the tour are $10.00 each and may be purchased at Hardin Medical Center, CB&S Bank, and The Hardin County Chamber of Commerce. Tickets will also be on sale at First United Methodist Church the day of the event.

The Hardin County Healthcare Foundation's annual Tour of Homes will be held Saturday, December 9th. One stop on the tour is a definite favorite from years past - The First Presbyterian Church. Originally built near The Cherry Mansion in the 1830s, the church was moved to its present location in 1903. Today the church still uses the same pews, pulpit, church bell, and stained glass windows. Be sure to stop by and see this historic old church while enjoying their gracious hospitality and the Christmas carols sung by the church choir.

With 20 plus participating food vendors, 12 brave competitive cake decorators, and a host of volunteers, The Hardin County Food Fight raised over $4,000 to support the battle against drug abuse in our community. If you helped in any way, thank you so much. And if you missed it this year, don't worry. We're already thinking about how to make it even bigger and better in 2018!
