We never thought what started as a conversation between friends three years ago would turn into such a successful nonprofit. 34 Seconds Foundation has had the honor to help first responders in our community both actively and passively through therapy and events in our area. The amount of people that we have had the opportunity to interact with, is so humbling.

What’s started as an idea to honor fallen Firefighter Thomas Welch, grew into something more. We have had many different sponsors that have believed in our cause, and developed many amazing relationships over the years.

This is why it’s hard to write this, but 34 Seconds Foundation will be dissolving at the end of 2024.

As we intend for your contributions to be used in the most impactful way, we are proud to share that 50% of our remaining funds will be donated to the Honor Mark Foundation, and the other 50% of our funds will be donated to the Fight the War Within Foundation.

Thomas Cooper Welch
February 6, 1989 - April 28, 2019

This Shoutout Saturday is an extra special one. This man right here, Thomas Welch. A hero and the reason the 34 Seconds Foundation was created. We want to take moment to share some special words from our President, Matt Maringola:

On the morning of April 28, 2019 I did not realize it would be the last time I would see my best friend. That evening I got the call, that he had gone missing and I went out searching for him. I was the last person to see him alive that morning. That night has remained with me since.

Thomas Welch was a member of T2 with Savannah Fire Department. Prior to Thomas joining the fire service he served 2 overseas Tours with the 1st Battalion, 8 Marines, where he served as an Infantry Squad Leader. He received several awards and commendations for his bravery, extraordinary courage, and service for his country.

Years later I felt a calling that I needed to do something more to protect our brothers and sisters. We know the consequences of the job when we sign up, but eventually reality kicks in. Run after run, we pile these memories up, and continue to function throughout the day. We joke around at the dinner table with our brothers and sisters after working wrecks, shootings or fires. It’s just the nature of the beast…but sometimes these walls collapse at work, at home or being alone.

The 34 Seconds Foundation was founded on this principle. You are not alone. It takes 34 seconds for a call to go voicemail. We hope that everyone picks up the phone for their brothers and sisters. We are all one family. At 34 Seconds Foundation we honor my best friend Thomas Welch and so many others that have passed or are currently fighting demons inside.❤️
