At the recent City Council meeting, many residents raised concerns about the proposed 6-story, 294-unit development at 1 Harbor Drive—the first major project submitted since Measure J opened parts of the Marinship to new housing.

We’re hosting a community forum to share what we know and gather input.

Why this matters:
• Only 46 of 294 units are currently allocated for low- to moderate-income households
• Projects of this scale place massive pressure on infrastructure—roads, sewer, emergency services
• The City must ensure impacts are clearly assessed and developers contribute fairly

This is not about opposing housing. It’s about making sure new development is well-designed, delivers meaningful affordability, and responsibly addresses community impacts.

Your voice matters! Bring a neighbor. We hope to see you there.

Looking Ahead to 2026: The Fight to Protect Sausalito Continues!

This year, together with our community, we achieved extraordinary victories—successfully removing Sausalito’s Historic District from SB 79, fighting out-of-scale developments, securing critical view protections, and more.

Donate before MIDNIGHT to help us start the new year strong:
https://actionnetwork.org/fundraising/help-us-save-our-sausalito

But new threats are already emerging. In the months ahead, we’re fighting two monster developments (605 Bridgeway is back!), monitoring the MLK Park project, tracking new state legislation, and building statewide coalitions to protect historic communities.

Every battle requires resources:

→ Legal expertise to defend our protections
→ Sacramento lobbyists working with legislators
→ Technical experts strengthening our arguments
→ Community mobilization at critical moments

We’ve proven what’s possible when Sausalito speaks with one voice. But we can only continue this work with your support.

Will you help us protect Sausalito in 2026?

Together, we’ll ensure the Sausalito we treasure remains for generations to come.

As 2025 comes to a close, we’re proud to share what organized community action made possible this year.

Developers pushed oversized luxury projects. State lawmakers tried to override local protections. Environmental safeguards were threatened. Together, we pushed back — and we won.

🎉Here are 6 major wins in 2025 thanks to YOU, our community of supporters. 👇 Read more: https://saveoursausalito.com/

✅ Stopped the 605 Bridgeway “Monster” — for now
🏛️ Removed Sausalito from SB 79 — permanently
🛑 Removed Alta Mira & 605 Bridgeway from Housing Opportunity Sites
🌄 Secured enforceable View Protections
📏 Closed the Historic District height loophole
🌳 Secured a Council majority for “Pledge 32” at MLK Park

THANK YOU! These victories happened because neighbors spoke up, showed up, and stayed engaged.

💙 Help us carry this momentum into 2026. If you’re able, please consider making a year-end donation to support the legal, technical, and community work that made these wins possible.

📆Voting time! ⏱ Sausalito strives to balance progress with preservation and inclusion with independence. Measure K, the MLK Local Control Measure is a practical, community-sensitive way to deliver affordable senior housing while protecting what makes our town special.

The Marin Independent Journal endorsed Measure K, writing, 👉“it is the only site where the city can mandate that it be used for affordable housing and control its size and design.”

https://www.marinij.com/2025/10/08/editorial-sausalito-housing-measures-j-and-k-deserve-support-on-nov-4/

🏡 Measure K applies only to two acres of City-owned land at MLK — the area occupied by the "bus barn" — old industrial buildings in need of repair. It allows no more than 50 affordable homes primarily for seniors, with a strict 32-foot height limit - this will be legally binding if approved by voters.

🐶⛹️‍♂️🎾All fields, playgrounds, and school facilities remain fully protected.

✅ We urge voters to read the real facts about Measure K and use this opportunity to invest in the future of Sausalito.

💙Thanks to everyone who joined Save Our Sausalito (SOS) on 10/16 for our Forum on Measures J & K with Mayor Joan Cox, Vice Mayor Steven Woodside. 💬

We’re proud to keep the tent big — welcoming all voices and ideas. Even when we see things differently, we remain connected as neighbors who care deeply about our community.

Highlights:

🌳Measure K sparked many perspectives - all fields, recreation areas, and schools remain if Measure K passes.

👵Up to 50 affordable senior units (max 32 ft) could be built on 2 acres of already developed, City-owned land, allowing 100% to be dedicated to seniors.

🅿️ MLK Park access and parking were key topics: residents supported more affordable housing but questioned the MLK location and parking impacts.

🏠Architects Michael Rex (of Rex Architects) and Jerome Christensen (of Design Co.) shared senior housing design concepts and answered community questions.

💡Sybil Boutilier, Sausalito’s beloved senior-housing and tenants’-rights advocate, shared valuable insights on housing needs for older adults.

👥Joe Penrod (Friends of MLK Park) and Stacy Nimmo (Build Smart Sausalito) added their perspectives and ideas to the conversation.

🚗And a big shout-out to Jann Johnson for her smart diagonal-parking idea on Coloma Street — a practical fix we encourage the City Council to explore (if not already underway!).

Thanks to everyone who showed up, asked questions, and shared ideas. ❤️

11/13/2024

Hi Save Our Sausalito Community,

On October 17th, the City of Sausalito marked the 605-613 Bridgeway application as “complete." This started a State mandated 30-day clock for the city to act on the application.

At this point the city has three options. It can straight out deny the application. It can start an environmental review under the CA Environmental Quality Act (“CEQA”) or worst case, it can approve the application.

If the city takes no action by November 15, the project will be automatically approved. As of November 13, no action has yet been posted to the project file.

We need your support! Save Our Sausalito (SOS) has been monitoring the situation around the clock, submitting various legal filings, and physically delivering petitions to the city. We are fighting for you! But we need you to take action now to make your voice heard.

Please take a moment to sign the petition and submit a letter to the city advocating for the denial of this harmful development. Use the link below to access a template letter, and personalize it with your own concerns. The deadline to submit your letter is Friday, November 15th.

Link to submit letter: https://actionnetwork.org/letters/deny-605-613-bridgeway-application?source=email&

Link to sign petition: https://actionnetwork.org/petitions/urgent-petition-against-605-613-bridgeway-condo-development

If this project is approved as proposed there will be irrevocable harm to our Historic District, setting up a domino effect of similar projects. It will be the end of our historic district and city's special character.

Thank you for your support in this critical fight!

New housing laws from the state make it easier for builders to start projects. Now, we are facing an application for a huge 9-story, 109-foot luxury building that doesn't fit in our Historic District or follow our local rules. We're asking our local leaders to apply the law and common sense to stop....
