⚓ WHY VOTE NO ON MEASURE X? LOOK ACROSS THE BAY AT ALAMEDA.

Latitude 38 Magazine went back to Alameda Marina to see what’s left of its working waterfront. If you care about the Marinship, please take five minutes to read this article and the comments.

Before redevelopment, Alameda Marina was home to Svendsen’s Boatyard, Island Yacht Club, sailmakers, riggers, naval architects, yacht brokers, and marine dry storage.

In 2018, Alameda’s City Council approved 760 homes, along with plans for a maritime-commercial core and working-marina facilities.
Eight years later, the housing is going up fast, and the seawall has been fixed. But the dry storage yard shown in the developer’s rendering has no boats, and its only hoist doesn’t work.

Latitude 38 estimates the land is now about 90% residential and questions whether the maritime businesses in the renderings will ever appear. The publication reached out to Pacific Development but received no response when it asked whether marine trades would return.

Author John Arndt also raises a point about public access. The project promised more public access, but the old marina was already open to anyone who wanted to walk in or do business there. A shoreline path isn’t the same as getting a boat in the water.

Measure X isn’t the same project, but it asks Sausalito to make the same bet.

🏗️ It allows 10 times the building floor area on waterfront lots.
🔧 Repeals the Marinship Specific Plan and its protections for maritime and industrial uses. The City’s independent report warns that new uses and higher-paying tenants could put pressure on existing businesses.

🗳️ Removes voters’ right to approve certain zoning changes outside the Downtown Historic District, leaving those decisions to three Council members.

Measure X doesn’t allow housing in the Marinship today. But zoning decisions now shape what happens next. In Alameda, the Council’s next step was housing.

🚨 Ballots drop this week, and the No on Measure X campaign is moving into high gear.

Sausalito volunteers have knocked on nearly 1,000 doors, placed almost 500 yard signs across town, and left more than 1,000 postcards on doorsteps. This week, a direct mailer reached 3,500 Sausalito households. You'll find us at the Farmers Market every Sunday and on large banners in high-traffic areas. Most importantly, neighbors are talking with neighbors about what Measure X would really do to our town.

It's working. Now let's finish strong.

Thanks to Sausalito City Councilmember Joan Cox for hosting the informational event at Marin Made last Monday on Measure X and explaining what it really means for the whole of Sausalito.

It was great to see past and present City Council representatives there, including former Mayor Janelle Kellman.

Joan Cox, Jill Hoffman, Nastassya Saad, and Janelle Kellman all agree that Measure X goes too far and support NO on Measure X.

The Marin Independent Journal has endorsed Joan Cox and Jill Hoffman for Sausalito City Council. They also praised Nastassya Saad, who has spoken out against Measure X, as "well-spoken and well-informed," noting her Planning Commission experience as "a plus."

All three oppose Measure X.
