👏🏼 🤍— Cheboygan resident Tashia Spencer is laced up and ready to hit the pavement this June for a deeply personal cause. For the second consecutive year, she will lace up her walking shoes to complete the “One Step, One Breath” 100-Mile Challenge, raising vital funds directly for The Robert and Helen Ball Hospice House.
The inspiration behind the 100-mile journey stems from Tashia’s personal experiences with the facility, where both of her parents passed away—her father in 2016 and her mother in 2022.
“When my parents were in the Ball Hospice House, the staff lifted a heavy burden off our shoulders,” says Spencer. “I didn’t have to worry about a single thing. Because of them, I could just focus on being a daughter spending quality time with her parents. There is so much love in the house, and I want to ensure every local family gets to experience that same comfort and dignity.”
Last year, the inaugural challenge raised an incredible $3,050.00 through grassroots donations from friends, family, and local supporters who pledged either flat donations or a specific dollar amount per mile. This year, Spencer is looking to expand her reach, stepping out with deep gratitude for whatever amount is raised to support both patients and the families who stand by their side.
Funds raised during the month of June will stay local, helping The Robert and Helen Ball Hospice House maintain family comfort amenities, overnight guest provisions, and the supportive environment that allows families to focus entirely on their loved ones.
Community members can participate by tracking Tashia’s daily progress online, joining her for a mile on the trail, or making a flat or per-mile financial pledge.
