Best of Friends Humane Society Best of Friends Humane Society operates in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. Best of Friends receives no government funding.

We are a private, non-profit organization that provides financial assistance for veterinary care for pets belonging to low-income pet owners. Since 2012, Best of Friends has provided more than 1,100 low income pet owners with veterinary assistance. Our goal is to insure that no pet suffers or is relinquished to a shelter because its owner cannot afford veterinary care. The money that we pay to veterinarians for treating your pet comes from donations by individuals who love animals and from fundraisers. If you need assistance with your pet’s veterinary care, call 906-630-4602.

Oct. 6 - Do better people!

These kittens were thankfully found near the boat launch at Munuscong River State Forest Campground before something happened to them.

If you have kittens you cannot care for and you are a Chippewa County resident, bring them to us. There is no surrender fee, and we will provide you with a free spay for the mother cat. Please don’t make their first experience with the world being abandoned outside and left to survive.

There is absolutely no reason to dump kittens or any domestic animal, for that matter. What exactly do you think happens when you dump kittens outside? Do you think they suddenly know how to hunt and catch enough mice to survive? Do you think they know how to protect themselves from predators? Find safe shelter? Stay warm when we had frost last night?

These are domestic kittens. Leaving them at a campground, boat launch, roadside, or anywhere else to fend for themselves is not giving them a better life. It is putting their lives at risk.

They deserved better.

Do better.
