STEMHer partnered with The C A R E Foundation for a Girls only Coding workshop in St Kitts island this past Thursday, July 14th.

C.A.R.E. is a humanitarian organization focused on community outreach across St. Kitts and Nevis to do good and to serve wherever there is a need. The Foundation and its cadre of volunteers will work across the entire nation to change and impact lives one individual, one family, one community at a time in order to improve and empower lives, defeat poverty and achieve social justice.

The workshop was taught to a group of intelligent and engaged young girls ages 13 through 15. It covered basic programming skills like loops and condition statements through the visual programming software, Scratch. Amiya, the founder and CEO of STEMHer taught this workshop in hopes of inspiring young girls to pursue careers in fields of science, technology, engineering, and math, aligning with the mission of STEMHer. The workshop ended with all of the girls receiving certificates from Dr. Terrance Drew, founder of The C A R E Foundation

Special thank you to Christine Walywn, Victor Webster, Dr Terrance Drew

STEMHer's Scratch Programming Workshop Day 1: July 17th, 2021

Girls from India, Nigeria, and The United States participated, connected, and collaborated during the workshop Day 1. The participating girls were introduced to Scratch Programming. They explored some basic coding by making the Sprite walk through rotation in a square. In addition, they learnt about using backdrops, sounds and costumes in their mini fun game project. We look forward to our workshop Day 2 tomorrow to teach more coding skills and create a game.
