Congratulations to Dakota Bellerose, our 2026 Rodion Cantacuzene scholarship recipient! Bellerose will soon graduate from Hadley-Luzerne High School and will attend SUNY Adirondack beginning this fall.

The scholarship, named after a longtime Museum trustee and patron of the arts, is intended to foster like-minded leaders, philanthropists, and volunteers throughout our communities and will be awarded annually to a deserving high school student from Saratoga County.

Happy birthday to Hall of Fame trainer Jack Fisher, a member of the class of 2021. A native of Unionville, Pennsylvania, Fisher won his first race as a trainer in 1988 with Call Louis. He topped all steeplechase trainers in wins for the first time in 2003 and has led 15 times in his career. In 2004, Fisher topped the earnings list for the first of 11 times. Fisher became the first trainer in steeplechase history to surpass $1 million in purse earnings in a year, something he has accomplished eight times. He trained two-time Eclipse Award winner and Hall of Fame member Good Night Shirt, one of only four horses to earn $1 million in steeplechase racing. Good Night Shirt won a total of 10 graded stakes and twice set the single-season earnings record. Fisher also trained Eclipse Award winners Scorpiancer (2017), Moscato (2020), and Snap Decision (2024), the fourth horse to surpass $1 million in earnings. With Saluter, Fisher won six consecutive editions of the Virginia Gold Cup and four runnings of the Virginia Hunt Cup. Fisher has won the Virginia Gold Cup 12 times as a trainer and nine times as a rider โ€” both records. Fisher rode Saluter to each of his Gold Cup victories. Through early June, Fisher has won 772 career races and ranks second all time in steeplechase purse earnings with more than $22 million, behind only Hall of Famer Jonathan Sheppard. Happy birthday, Jack!

Happy birthday to Hall of Fame trainer Jerry Hollendorfer, a member of the class of 2011. At the time of his Hall of Fame induction, Hollendorfer ranked in the top 10 in all-time wins and purse earnings among North American trainers. Born in Akron, Ohio, Hollendorfer arrived in California in the late 1960s and began working as a groom at Bay Meadows. He later went to work for trainers Jerry Dutton and Jerry Fanning in various capacities before taking out his own training license in 1979. From 1986 through May 2008, Hollendorfer won 37 consecutive training championships at Bay Meadows and 32 in a row at Golden Gate Fields. Major races won by Hollendorfer horses include three runnings of the Kentucky Oaks, with Lite Light in 1991, Pike Place Dancer in 1996, and Blind Luck in 2010. Hollendorfer has also won the Santa Anita Handicap, Santa Anita Derby, Haskell Invitational, Hollywood Futurity, Delaware Handicap, Alabama Stakes, Humana Distaff Handicap, and Ohio Derby, among others. He has trained Eclipse Award winners Songbird, Blind Luck, and Shared Belief. Through early June, he ranks third all time in wins (7,777) and 10th in earnings ($207,421,666).

Happy birthday to Hall of Fame jockey Edgar Prado, a member of the class of 2008. Prado was the leading rider in his native Peru before coming to the United States in 1986. Initially riding in New England and Florida, he rose to stardom on the Maryland circuit โ€” where he was the leading rider from 1991 through 1993 โ€” and went on to top all North American jockeys in wins each year from 1997 through 1999. In 1997, he became only the fourth rider to surpass 500 wins in a single year, winning a career-best 535 races. In 2002 and 2004, Prado won the Belmont Stakes, denying the Triple Crown bids of War Emblem and Smarty Jones with Sarava at odds of 70-1 and Birdstone at 36-1, respectively. Prado and Birdstone then went on to win a memorable edition of the Travers Stakes. In 2003, Prado won the Kentucky Oaks in stakes-record time aboard Bird Town, who, like Birdstone, was owned by Hall of Fame member Marylou Whitney. In 2006, Prado won the Kentucky Derby aboard Barbaro and earned the Eclipse Award for Outstanding Jockey. He won five Breedersโ€™ Cup races, including the 2006 Distaff with Round Pond and a record-setting performance in the 2015 Sprint with champion Runhappy. In 2018, Prado became the eighth North American-based jockey to surpass 7,000 wins. He retired in 2023 with 7,119 wins and purse earnings of $272,008.849, ranking in the top 10 all time in both categories. Happy birthday, Edgar!
