Saratoga County Alliance to End Homelessness

Saratoga County Alliance to End Homelessness Introducing the Saratoga County Alliance to End Homelessness.

We are a group of local experts, concerned business owners and professionals, caring residents, formerly homeless individuals, community leaders, and city and county officials. The Saratoga County Alliance to End Homelessness (a subset of the Saratoga-North Country Continuum of Care) is an inclusive collaborative effort committed to ending homelessness in Saratoga County by increasing the level an

d coordination of housing and support services so that the cycle of homelessness is not perpetuated. The Alliance encourages increasing participation by state, county and local government, community leaders, non-profit organizations, housing developers, service providers, and persons with a lived experience of homelessness. In order to accomplish this vision, an entire continuum of opportunities must be provided, including homeless prevention services, outreach and assessment, emergency shelter, transitional housing, permanent supportive housing, permanent housing, and support services.

Congratulations to RISE Housing and Support Services on the ceremonial ground breaking for the HOMEBASE Therapeutic Community Center! HOMEBASE will be a great asset to our community by providing peer support and opportunities to combat isolation and provide semi-structured therapeutic activities for individuals in our community who feel isolated, and unwelcome in places where others would normally socialize, to develop daily living skills and a natural support system.

Commissioner Tim Coll and Commissioner Minita Sanghvi commemorate the instillation of collection boxes with QR Codes in downtown Saratoga Springs designed to reduce panhandling while still helping the individuals experiencing homelessness.

"The purposes of these boxes are to give the public the opportunity to give money directly to our non profits - RISE Housing and Support Services and Shelters of Saratoga. The money will be used to get safe housing for the homeless." Both agencies, Commissioner Coll continues are, "experts on homelessness in this area. they are a tremendous resource for our city."

not an invitation to do business as usual.

In the Fall of 2019, a small group of local partners came together to raise funds to bring a consultant with expertise in building collaboratives to end homelessness here to Saratoga. The purpose was to assess Saratoga’s readiness to build such a collaborative. Erin Healy, a Saratoga native, specializes in systems innovation, movement building, and supporting leaders and teams to set and achieve concrete and courageous goals. She has a deep passion and intuition for guiding people from seemingly disparate organizations, industry sectors, and/or mindsets to become thriving, focused teams.

As a result of that initial visit, and working as a broader, cross-sector Team, we are moving on to ”phase two” of our work: launching an Action Lab and Sprint Cycle in February 2020. Working in unprecedented collaboration across multiple agencies, we are building upon the decades of good work done by our local homeless and housing services partners and will work together to innovate and scale solutions to end homelessness.

The goal of the first 100-day Sprint will be determined by the Design Team on February 25, 2020 but will focus on reducing street homelessness. Using a proven model of rapid cycle innovation and data-driven performance management, SCEH will work together toward the utlimate goal of reducing all forms of homelessness in Saratoga. This will not only save lives, but public dollars as well. Ultimately, ending homelessness through the provision of supportive housing is much less expensive than maintaining homelessness through myriad crisis systems.

This is not an invitation to do business as usual. This is an invitation to radically re-vision what’s possible and to solve complex problems through collaboration, iterative problem-solving, and a bias toward action over processing and planning.
