If you want to fix congestion, you have to provide options in addition to single passenger vehicles.

We often hear that the answer to congestion is more car lanes. Yet city after city has shown that adding lanes doesn't eliminate traffic—it simply attracts more driving until congestion returns.

The most effective way to move more people is to provide choices: safe bike networks, comfortable sidewalks and safe crossings, and reliable transit. When more people can walk, bike, roll, or ride transit, there are fewer cars on the road. That's how we reduce congestion, improve safety, and create communities that work for everyone.

The goal isn't to move more cars. It's moving more people!

Bring back safe speeds!

🪧Sign of the Times

Florida’s first speed-limit sign on a highway was erected to promote safer driving habits. FHP was instrumental in managing traffic and enforcing the new limits.

This led to the standardization of road signs, and radar technology a year later.

Traffic safety isn’t just a policy debate, it’s personal.

After the death of her husband caused by a red-light runner, Melissa Wandall, president of NCSR, turned unimaginable tragedy into action through the Mark Wandall Traffic Safety Act.

Today, the data matters. In Florida, angle crashes also known as T-bone crashes, some of the most dangerous types of collisions, have declined at intersections with red-light cameras.

Behind every number is a life. A family. A future.

Of course it has.

For decades we’ve built communities where kids can’t get anywhere on their own. They’re driven everywhere by stressed, overworked parents because walking isn’t safe, biking isn’t safe, and transit often isn’t practical. Then one day we hand them the keys to a multi-ton vehicle and expect everything to go smoothly.

Meanwhile, we fail to build the things that would actually give young people independence: protected bike paths that even a child could use, safe walking routes, reliable transit, and neighborhoods where daily destinations aren’t miles apart.

We’ve designed a system where the only path to independence is driving. When kids are plucked from a booster seat and forced into the driver’s seat, rising crash rates shouldn’t be a surprise. They’re the predictable outcome of a system that offers no other choice.

The number of young people dying in crashes on Colorado’s roads has nearly doubled in the last decade, according to CDOT.
