More than 100 community members joined the Manatee County Hurricane Expo, hosted by Trailer Estates CERT Team and Glen Lakes CERT, to get hurricane-ready before the next storm.

From evacuation planning and emergency preparedness resources to hands-on experiences with first responder vehicles and equipment, attendees gained valuable tools to help keep themselves, their families, and their neighbors safe.

A big thank you to the volunteers, CERT members, first responders, and community partners who helped make this event a success. Together, we're building a more resilient community—one prepared neighbor at a time.

"I came into the organization aware that TPF connects its philanthropic actions to a set of guiding values and practices, often referred to as “the 5s.” In these early conversations, I wasn’t listening for definitions. I was listening for evidence so that I could understand how words and concepts are lived.

My ears were primed to hear:
– When do people use the values or the 5s to make a point about their work or an initiative?
– What stories about people, organizations, and communities are shared that are connected back to the values or the 5s?
– How is the work described with the values or 5s embedded in the story?

Without a doubt, patterns emerged." — Michelle Walker

🧠 Last chance to register for the National New Civic Path Book Circle happening tomorrow.

Hundreds of Floridians across the Suncoast region stepped forward to participate in The Patterson Foundation’s New Civic Path book circles in 2025. Since then, many have continued putting those conversations into practice by building relationships, exchanging perspectives, and stepping more fully into their roles as Agents of Hope.

If that’s you, this is your next step.

Tomorrow, June 2 at 12:30 p.m. ET, The Harwood Institute is hosting a National New Civic Path Book Circle. It will bring together people from across the country who have participated in local circles like yours.

Together, we will explore how we can:
• Address our country’s toughest challenges
• Reclaim our shared agency
• Take meaningful action starting locally and spreading nationwide

This isn’t just about revisiting a book. It’s about continuing the work by reframing challenges, rediscovering shared values, and activating ourselves as agents of hope.

We would love to see you in the circle.

No Margin, No Mission

05/27/2026

As No Margin, No Mission continues to recognize the organizations that have helped shape our journey over the past 15 years, we're featuring one nonprofit partner each week for 52 weeks. Resilient Retreat is a standout example of how entrepreneurial thinking and mission-aligned earned income can help an organization expand its impact, deepen community connection, and strengthen long-term thrivability.

In 2022, Resilient Retreat participated in The Patterson Foundation’s Margin & Mission Ignition Learning Lab series to explore and vet a range of earned income and social enterprise possibilities that could boost unrestricted revenue and mission impact. Through that process, the organization identified a strong and viable opportunity AND demonstrated preparedness for success through strong alignment in LWRCC — leadership, willingness, readiness, capacity, and culture.

As a result, Resilient Retreat advanced into the intensive consulting phase of MMI, partnering with No Margin, No Mission to develop a comprehensive business plan, secure startup capital, implement the venture, and track performance over time for the launch of The Retreat Sarasota, a mission-aligned venue rental enterprise that transforms meetings, retreats, weddings, milestone celebrations, workshops, and special events into a source of sustainable earned revenue. Known as The Venue that Saves Lives, every booking helps support Resilient Retreat’s work providing healing-centered programming and services for individuals recovering from trauma, while also introducing new audiences to the organization and its mission.

Building on that momentum, Resilient Retreat returned in 2025 for Advanced MMI to further expand its entrepreneurial strategy through the launch of Wellness Services at The Retreat Sarasota. The new offerings — including Sound Bath, Guided Breathwork and Meditation, Gentle Yoga Stretch, Qigong, Therapeutic Dance, and more — are designed to complement venue rentals while also being available as standalone experiences for the broader community.

Together, The Retreat Sarasota and its soon-to-launch Wellness Services have generated more than $500,000 in total revenue to date while producing ripple effects that extend far beyond income: expanded community engagement, stronger partnerships, increased organizational visibility, enhanced staff capacity, and a growing culture of innovation and entrepreneurial thinking. By aligning enterprise with purpose, Resilient Retreat continues to prove that healing and thrivability can grow hand in hand. What if hope isn’t something we wait for but something we build together? What if the path forward for our communities is already within reach, rooted in the people, stories, and connections around us?

Across communities, we’re seeing what’s possible when people come together with intention and through conversations. Conversations are turning into connections. Connection is turning into action. And action is creating real, tangible change.
