After two hours, we got to walk away from the reentry simulation. For many people throughout our community, the barriers don’t end when the event does.

Finding housing, securing employment, accessing transportation, and meeting strict requirements are daily realities for people working to rebuild their lives.

Understanding is a place to start. What we do with that understanding matters the most.

Offer an opportunity. Reconsider a policy. Connect someone to resources. See the person beyond their past.

At Project 180, we walk alongside people as they rebuild, and our community makes so much of that work possible. Every employer who opens a door, partner who offers support, and neighbor who believes in someone helps create a path forward.

We each have something to contribute. Reach out to Project 180 to explore how you can be part of someone’s next opportunity.

Thank you to everyone who participated in today’s reentry simulation and meaningful debrief!

This experience offers just a glimpse of the reality we see every day at Project 180: a lack of housing, transportation, and money for basic needs, all vital to stability and sustainable progress. Add strict requirements and limited resources while trying to stay clean and sober and rebuild a life.

At Project 180, we provide support and connect people to resources and opportunities, walking alongside them, believing in them, and empowering them to succeed and grow.

Thank you to the employers and community partners exploring second chance employment, and to Jason Brewster from Atlantic TNG for sharing the company’s experience providing these opportunities. A huge shoutout and thank you to our incredible friends at the Florida Department of Corrections for all your work helping citizens return and facilitating this simulation!

Behind every barrier is a person trying to move forward. Lives depend on us helping those who need it most. Thank you for being part of that work.

Today, we are celebrating our Project 180 graduate and brother, Britt, on 5 YEARS SOBER! 🎉🧡

Britt, we are so incredibly proud of you, the life you are building, and the strength you continue to show through every season. We hope you know just how many people are standing beside you, lifting you up, and rooting for you. You are loved, supported, and never walking alone.

Britt shared these words:

“Don’t confuse every detour with denial… sometimes a detour is putting you right on track.”

Five years is a whole lot of days choosing recovery, choosing growth, and continuing forward no matter what the road looks like. We are so grateful you are part of the Project 180 family and so proud to celebrate this milestone with you.

We loved spending an evening of fellowship, dessert, and conversation with our St. Andrew United Church of Christ, Sarasota family! We’re grateful to share a few photos from our time together. 🍰🧡🤗

This congregation goes out of its way to make Project 180 residents and graduates feel cared for, supported, and cheered on. It warms our hearts to have such wonderful friends and advocates in our corner.

Thank you to everyone from St. Andrew UCC who came out to spend time with us. It was a beautiful reminder of what it feels like to be surrounded by a community that cares.

We just got to celebrate an amazing milestone with one of our residents, Ernest, on his three years of sobriety! 🎉🙌

Ernest shared a little about what these three years have meant to him.

Ernest shares:
“One day at a time. It works if you work it. Keep coming back. Surrender and take all the suggestions: go to meetings, read the literature, and stay connected. Man, it seems like a lot, but really, it’s not. And now the Ninth Step Promises are proving to be true for me. I love it. It wasn’t easy, but it was definitely worth it. My relationship with my Higher Power… honestly, I don’t know where to start or finish. But I was lost in my addiction, dealing to use and using to deal, living in the problem and never in the solution. Now I’m in recovery. Thanks for everything.”

Ernest, we’re so grateful to celebrate you and your hard work. Your dedication to recovery and personal growth radiates from you. We’re so proud to be part of the life you’re building. Congratulations! 🧡

Ben defines resilience. Even through life’s hardest moments, he continues to show up for his recovery and for the people around him. He is the first to lift up his fellow brothers and celebrate their milestones, so today we get to celebrate his.

“A great beginning for endless possibilities.” — David

We are proud to celebrate David, who recently reached his one year of sobriety milestone!

Over the past year, David has taken responsibility for his life and remained committed to building a better future. He continues to succeed in his longtime job, leads by example, actively participates in his recovery, and helps others find their way forward, too.

Recovery is not just about reaching a milestone. It is about the choices made each day, the work put in, and the life being built along the way. David continues to make those choices with the support of his Project 180 family beside him.

Are you looking for qualified workers? What talent might you be overlooking?

Second chance hiring can help businesses expand their talent pool, fill difficult positions, improve retention, and build a loyal workforce.

Project 180 is hosting a Reentry Simulation, facilitated by the Florida Department of Corrections, that will give employers, HR professionals, business owners, and housing leaders the opportunity to experience the barriers someone may face while rebuilding after incarceration. Participants will leave with a new perspective, practical first steps, and a better understanding of how hiring practices and workforce partnerships can create opportunity.

The people returning to our communities are part of our workforce. The question is whether we are prepared to see the talent!

Shawn is a Project 180 resident, a veteran, and a valued part of our community. We are so proud of the work he continues to put into his recovery, his life, and the friendships and brotherhood he is building along the way.

Today, we pause to remember and honor the lives lost on September 11, 2001. 🇺🇸

We remember those who lost their lives, the families and loved ones forever changed, and the first responders and everyday people who showed extraordinary courage in the face of tragedy.

May we continue to carry their memory with us.
