The importance of a Case Manager:

What is it that you need to get done? Prescriptions only? Or EEGs, MRIs and even more testing with your neurologist!?
These case managers are here to tackle any one of your battles. Speak up. Make the phone call.
It’s real tough to ask for help with something, that you don’t even want to deal with in the first place.

But when have a case manager wanting to help guide you, it sure leaves a better feeling. When someone else wants to help get your mission accomplished!

Just want to thank Leona Lopes and Gregory Keeley from the Oxford House for including Epilepsy Services of SW Florida on their June 19th presentation in Ft Myers. For those who may not know, this is a wonderful group and program for sobriety and a place that brings hope and a home to many. We have clients who struggle with seizures and some additionally have other medical or unstable living situations. It was our honor to support them in their outreach. For info: oxfordhouse.org

Our thanks to Niki with our Ft Myers office for coordinating our sponsorship. For those looking for support for seizures- our case managers assist clients with clinic appointments, medical testing and medications through a Florida Department of Health program at no cost to our clients. In its simplest form, an Oxford House is a shared residence where people in recovery from drug and alcohol addiction can live together and support each other in a drug and alcohol-free environment.

From Chad Riese;

This is your diagnosis. And this is your battle! It took me over 12 months to say “I’m ready to fight back.” I was hospitalized 5 times because of fierce grand-mal seizures. I went and got some prescriptions, I didn’t listen to anything else that anyone had to say. It took me even longer to say I’m ready to stop drinking the alcohol. To do MORE than just start taking the prescription meds. To actually consider listening to ALL of the words coming out of the Neurologist’s mouth.
It was the biggest hurdle to jump over, when I gave up my drivers license. And was then selling my car and motorcycle.

But 6 brain surgeries later. I skateboard and Uber to the grocery store these days. But seizures do not weigh me down the way that they used too. I’m here to share my story any day of the week.
“Embrace Every possibility.”

Epilepsy Services of SW Florida has provided case management assistance and we appreciate Chad’s willingness to share his story and support for others on their journey.

Our typical client is 20-25 with sudden seizures. Some had had a prior head injury from a fall and for others there was some metabolic change. With proper diagnosis and treatment over 90% of clients report less or no seizures under treatment plan!
