The Clark West and Elliott Mitchell Family Foundation is non political and focuses on three areas of care. The first is LGBTQ initiatives and support. Through the Sarasota organization named Our House we provide space and facilitate a men's HIV support group in partnership with the local Community AIDS Network. We also provide free legal seminars and one on one counseling advice on wills, power of
attorney and medical directives. We provide 4 full time scholarships for college tuition, provide emergency financial assistance for LGBT students needing housing after being forced from their home, provide funds for various gender studies programs such as guest speaker programs at New College, support LGBTQ student organizations at several major universities. We will soon offer free mental health counseling for qualified members of the LGBTQ community. The second area of focus is animal care programs and animal service support programs like Southeastern Guide Dog. We recently joined Southeastern's Heritage Society as Founder members and advocate for the training of guide dogs for the visually impaired, vets with PTSD, and other programs. We financially support no kill shelters and any programs providing care and recovery for injured or abused animals. The third area of focus is quality of life enhancement. We provide wheel chairs, driver assisted vehicles, artificial limbs, and other support for those who are financially unable to fill their need. People who become visually impaired as adults often live in housing not suited for their need. Hallways may need to be widened. Bathrooms may need to be altered. Counter highs may be unsuitable, etc. Too often these needs cannot be met by the individual. We will be working with local organizations to identify and support these individuals.
