We held our first Rooted in Community luncheon, connecting local business leaders, members, staff and our Board of Directors. Several members gave moving testimonials of their recovery experiences with us, and business leaders had the chance to talk about their establishments. It was a wonderful gathering for all. We hope it’s the first of many!

Gloria Madrid has worked at Fresh Market for over two years; her longest job tenure to date! Not only has she developed great work skills, but she has also learned to advocate for herself to overcome challenges. And there’s more! She starts a Baking and Pastry Chef college course in August. We are so proud to know her!

Congratulations to Ashley Muscat for completing her Transitional Employment (TE) position at the Public Defender’s Office and “passing the staple remover” to the next member to take on the role, Gerry Zago. Ashley said “It was a great experience. I will cherish my time there forever.” We are grateful to Public Defender Larry Eger and everyone there who makes the job so welcoming for our members.

Staff members Selena Rivera and Stacy Richards visited our Sarasota campus from Chobee Clubhouse in Okeechobee, Florida. Selena spent time in our business team and sharing with our multimedia team about video creation while Stacy focused on our culinary team. These visits are vital opportunities to learn from other programs and strengthen and refine our services.

We hosted colleagues from ACTS (“All Come To Shine”) Clubhouse in Tampa. Staff Jasmine Trezza and Daniel Mercedes were joined by member Frederick “JR” Richardson. They joined our teams, working side by side with us while sharing stories about their experience at ACTS. They have an amazing program in Tampa and we can’t wait to return the visit.

Thanks to the Manatee County Community Health Program, we had access to free health screenings. Nurses Brie and Hunter measured weight, body mass index, pulse, blood pressure, oxygen level, blood glucose, and heart and lung sounds. When it comes to our health, knowledge is power!

We were honored by a speech given by Judge Gilbert Smith, Jr., of the 12th Judicial Circuit, at our 2nd Anniversary Celebration for Academy at Bradenton. Judge Smith, who is a new Academy Ambassador as well as a renowned local historian, shared many interesting details about the history of our 100 year old historic building.
