‘Like a Fish’ references a poem written by Noelle McCleaf’s mother, found two years after her death - an earthly meditation on her transcendental reincarnation into a fish. The exhibition features photographs from a fifteen-year archive of collaboration between mother and daughter made in South Florida, family photographs of fisherwomen dating back to the 1950s, and poetry by Evelyn McCleaf and Felicia E. Gail.

We are very excited to announce our first exhibition of the semester, opening this Friday, September 4th at Crossley Gallery, featuring the beautiful photographic work of artist and faculty member Noelle McCleaf ⭐️

The presented series ‘Like a Fish’ references a poem written by Noelle’s mother and discovered two years after her death. The poem reflects on her mother’s reincarnation as a fish, offering a beautiful meditation on grief, memory and transformation.

This beautiful body of work will be on view in Crossley Gallery on Friday, September 4th, from 5:30–8:00 PM, come celebrate the opening with us — we hope to see you there! 🐟

Summer recap! 🌞

Two of our senior students took part in summer residency programs, Luna May attended the New York Academy of Art, and Benny Hickman attended the Pilchuk Glass School. Let’s hear about their experiences! ⭐️

Benny Hickman ‘27 : “We worked within our own individual workshops for about two weeks. My workshop focused on lampworking and dishware. Our teachers and team helped us with hotshop work, torch work, and lathe work. We started with basic shapes like cylinders, spheres, and cones, and then moved on to making cups. Some people even made their own lamps! It was a very fun experience, and in our final days, we each had our own shows where we got to exhibit our work and see what everyone else had made.”

Luna May ‘27: “This was a very impactful experience for me, which helped me to grow as an Artist. From live clay figure-sculpting classes that deepened my understanding of anatomy to classical painting techniques like alla prima and verdaccio, I saw my skills develop rapidly. Along the way, I had the chance to receive incredibly valuable studio visits, meet many talented artists, and immerse myself in the NYC art scene. It was a very transformative experience, and the final exhibition truly felt like the culmination of it all. I’m excited to bring these new skills and perspectives back into my practice and see where they take my work next!”
