Do you have an interest in proving your family bloodline (lineage) to an American Patriot who supported, or fought for our freedom during the American Revolution? We will do what we can to assist you in that effort. Here are some some guidelines to help you accomplish that goal. You only have to prove the direct bloodline back to the Patriot. Wives or husbands listed in your family lineage but not
in the bloodline are good to document but not necessary to prove with documentation. If you already know of at least one ancestor that supported the revolution, it is then a matter of proving that you are related to that ancestor. To set the record straight, your relative did NOT have to fight for you to be able to cite him (or her). They had to support. That could be anything from taking an oath of allegiance, serving on a jury, maintaining a road, donating food, donating the use of a horse, providing medical care for the wounded, etc. To prove the lineage from you, Generation #1, to the next generation requires you to produce a copy of your birth certificate, which should name your parents. Your parents, Generation #2, with their parents named on their birth certificates or death certificates leads to the next, Generation #3, your grandparents. The bloodline you are following is the parent and grandparent where you will need to provide copies of birth or death certificates. These certificates will have indicated linkage to the next generation. Birth, birth record, baptism, or death certificates are primary documents and only a copy is to be used. The goal is to link one generation by documents to the preceding generation as far as you can. US census records help us from 1850 to 1940. The Saramana Chapter will also use DAR and SAR files to assist you. We can send you a PDF application that uses the free Adobe Reader to help you organize your lineage as required by SAR. We will provide instructions on how to do that part when you advise us to continue toward membership in SAR. We look forward to meeting you and getting to know your patriot ancestors.
