There has been a lot of caring people who have checked in in the last couple of years to see how Cara has been doing, so thank you! She is 22 now, and since we have moved to the Charlotte NC area, she has been able to transition from her Atlanta Rheumatologist to a Charlotte Rheumatologist for her adult care of Dermatomyositis. She no longer has to travel for her care and she is doing well and thriving with 2 yearly infusions to maintain a normal life. She has a wonderful boyfriend and she currently is in Nursing school to become an RN and is building a Townhouse with her boyfriend in Indian Land SC. We are so proud of her and so happy to see her living her life to the fullest every single day! Thank you to everyone who has been there by her side to help her get here and followed her along her journey...♥️

Today, Cara saw her Chicago doctor for the last time. Dr. Pachman is not going to see patients anymore so she can focus on research for JDM for the next two years. We will be forever grateful to her for helping get Cara where she is today. Thank you to all of the people who have reached out to us about Cara's annual fundraiser, it is so touching to see how many people really care about Cara and have helped us through the past 9 years. For personal reasons, we have not been able to put together the Cure Cara fundraiser for this October. We will be setting up a way to donate online to help Cara with whatever her journey will be over this next year traveling to and from Atlanta for her infusions...so stay tuned! 💙. For right now, we are currently praying for a 3 year old little girl named Sarah who we met in Atlanta and was recently diagnosed with JDM and is currently in the hospital fighting a rare bacteria in her blood. Please say a prayer for her, and PM message me if you would like to donate to help her, or send her a toy to cheer her up! She's so sweet..💔

Back here again, for Cara's Infusion. Her labs from Chicago came back in normal range, however her B cells were slightly elevated...which means she needs to continue with Rituximab every six months. It's always heartbreaking to see the other kids and families in this hospital but this time we met another family with a 3 year old little girl recently diagnosed with Juvenile Dermatomyositis and about to get Solumedrol and IVIG. Seeing that will never get any easier. It made us all reflect on Cara's journey through all of this. How thankful we are that we have been able to continue to manage this disease through the years...

Cara is in Chicago getting a full day of evaluations done. Since starting Rituximab infusions every 6 months in Atlanta a year and a half ago, plus her monthly IVIG local infusions her rash seems to be pretty much under control for now. We will know more in a few weeks once all of her lab results come back. Just found out our Chicago Doctor is retiring from seeing patients at the end of this year but she will continue to do research on Juvenile Dermatomyositis, thankfully. She has helped Control this disease the best she could over the past 9 years and we owe everything to her 💙 Luckily, we have our Atlanta doctor in place to continue to oversee Cara's disease. Taking a much needed break to have some Shake Shack between appointments!
