Boommates is a catch phrase that encompasses an older cohort of home-mates.

I live in a 55 + low income community near a rural setting. The Affordable Connectivity Program has grown to be a necessary tool for the elder segment population that is increasingly dependent on the internet.

Many services, such as
doctor, diagnostic and other health professional portals
security and home monitoring
Well-being checks
Financial management
transportation scheduling
Isolation management through social engagement

Require the use of the internet. As companies and organizations cut costs and the workforce has downsized, companies have turned to the internet to manage many facets of their businesses. Many businesses rely on clients to complete many tasks online such as

Health management portals
Self-generated check-ins for health appointments including lengthy online forms
Many banking procedures
Scheduling Transportation
Preventing Isolation through visual chat options
low cost access to library materials
and so much more.

The necessity of having the internet has become the rule, not the exception.

By eliminating the Affordable Connectivity Program, representatives will deeply impact seniors who live on limited income and are already cost burdened.

Please represent your community and advocate for those who the digital divide disproportionately affects by instituting funding for this important program.

Osceola County in Florida has a 6 year old program for named "Hearts and Home Sharing" That has successfully made over 100 matches between host/providers and seekers.

Osceola Council on Aging VP Rodriguez points out “As most Central Florida residents are experiencing both rental and cost of living increases, this has prompted a demand for innovative housing solutions for lower income individuals,” OCOA Vice-President of Housing Angelica Rodriguez said, “Luckily, Home Sharing has emerged as a crucial resource for residents, not just in the state of Florida, but across our country. This option is empowering seniors, individuals with disabilities, working professionals, and those who simply cannot find affordable housing to maintain independence by sharing costs.”

With only 60 active Home Sharing programs across the United States, the Osceola Council on Aging is fortunate to host this housing initiative for residents of the Osceola community. The national program has been available to community members for more than six years.
