One month from today, we'll be getting ready.

On November 14, our whole community comes together for NocheUnidos, and behind the scenes, things are getting real: vendors confirming, rehearsals happening, and the Riverview Performing Arts Center getting ready.

Here’s what the night looks like:

5:00 PM: La Hora Latina. Rain or shine. Food trucks, music with DJ Camacho, a live performance by Mariachi ML, and vendors from our Entrepreneurship Program selling what they’ve built with their own hands.

7:00 PM: The performance. Our students share their stories, then multi-instrumentalist Enrique Simone Casados and OtroLado DC, the Havana-based company whose dancers Broadway World called “completely mesmerizing,” take the stage.

One night a year, we gather to fund everything that follows: college prep, FAFSA support, mentorship, family programs.

Dentro de un mes, estaremos ultimando los preparativos.

El 14 de noviembre, toda nuestra comunidad se reunirá para NocheUnidos y, entre bastidores, los preparativos cobran fuerza: confirmación de vendedores, ensayos en marcha y el Riverview Performing Arts Center preparándose para el evento.

Así será la velada:

5:00 p. m.: La Hora Latina. Se realizará llueva o haga sol. Habrá camiones de comida, música a cargo de DJ Camacho, una actuación en vivo de Mariachi Trío y vendedores de nuestro Programa de Emprendimiento ofreciendo productos elaborados por ellos mismos.

7:00 p. m.: El espectáculo. Nuestros estudiantes compartirán sus historias; a continuación, subirán al escenario el multiinstrumentista Enrique Simone Casados ​​y OtroLado Dance Company, la compañía con sede en La Habana cuyos bailarines fueron descritos por "Broadway World" como "absolutamente fascinantes".

Commemorating yesterday's Indigenous Peoples’ Day got us thinking.

Before there was a border to cross, there were nations here and all across the Americas, whose descendants are still here, still speaking, still building.

When we talk about the "cultural tapestry" of our region, this is the first thread. Latino identity isn't one thing: it's Indigenous, African, and European, woven together over centuries.

That tapestry is exactly what we will celebrate on November 14 at NocheUnidos, and today we wanted to introduce:

✨ La Hora Latina, the opening hours of NocheUnidos. Starting at 5:00 PM, rain or shine. Food trucks, live music with Mariachi ML, and vendors from our Entrepreneurship Program selling what they've built with their own hands.

Then at 7:00 PM, the evening turns: our students share their stories, and multi-instrumentalist Enrique Simone Casados and OtroLado DC take the stage.

We'll be introducing each of our La Hora Latina vendors over the coming weeks: the makers, the cooks, the entrepreneurs. Stay tuned to meet them!

La conmemoración de ayer del Día de los Pueblos Indígenas nos hizo reflexionar.

Antes de que existiera una frontera que cruzar, aquí y en toda América ya había naciones cuyos descendientes siguen presentes, siguen expresándose y siguen construyendo.

Cuando hablamos del "tapiz cultural" de nuestra región, este es el primer hilo. La identidad latina no es una sola cosa: es indígena, africana y europea, entrelazadas a lo largo de los siglos.

Ese tapiz es precisamente lo que celebraremos el 14 de noviembre en NocheUnidos, y hoy queremos presentarles:

✨ La Hora Latina, las primeras horas de NocheUnidos. Comenzará a las 5:00 p.m., sin importar el clima. Habrá camiones de comida, música en vivo con el Trío Mariachi y vendedores de nuestro Programa de Emprendimiento vendiendo lo que han creado con sus propias manos.

Luego, a las 7:00 p. m., la velada cambia de ritmo: nuestros estudiantes compartirán sus historias, y subirán al escenario el multiinstrumentista Enrique Simone Casados ​​y OtroLado Dance Company.

🌊 FLAM Workshop #4 Recap | Saturday, September 19 🐢

This month, our students explored Marine Biology and sea turtle conservation with our partners from Amigos de Las Tortugas!

🔎 Students learned about sea turtle species, their habitats, conservation, and careers in Marine Biology. They also worked in teams to evaluate a turtle and decide whether it could be released or needed rehabilitation.

🛍️ We wrapped up the day with our first DreamStore of the year, where students used their points to choose rewards!

⭐️ Thank you to our students, parents, and Amigos de Las Tortugas for making this workshop a success. We can’t wait for the next one!

🌊 Resumen del Taller #4 de FLAM | Sábado, 19 de septiembre 🐢

¡Este mes, nuestros estudiantes exploraron la biología marina y la conservación de las tortugas marinas junto a nuestros colaboradores de Amigos de Las Tortugas!

🔎 Los estudiantes aprendieron sobre diferentes especies de tortugas marinas, sus hábitats, la conservación y las carreras en biología marina. También trabajaron en equipo para evaluar una tortuga y decidir si podía ser liberada o necesitaba rehabilitación.

🛍️ Cerramos el día con nuestro primer DreamStore del año, donde los estudiantes usaron sus puntos para elegir sus premios.

⭐️ Gracias a nuestros estudiantes, padres y a Amigos de Las Tortugas por hacer de este taller un éxito. Estamos emocionados por el próximo taller!

Dejaron la compañía de danza más famosa de Cuba para crear su propio proyecto.

En 2018, Thaís Suárez y Norge Cedeño fundaron OtroLado DC en La Habana. Dejaron Danza Contemporánea de Cuba tras una década como bailarines principales, habiendo actuado en escenarios como Sadler's Wells, Teatro Real y Opéra de Monte-Carlo, entre otros.

Ocho años después, su trabajo ha sido solicitado por compañías como Birmingham Royal Ballet, Centro Coreografico Nazionale / Aterballetto y Acosta Danza. La crítica los considera una de las voces más singulares de la danza contemporánea cubana. Broadway World describió a sus bailarines como "absolutamente fascinantes".

El 14 de noviembre actuarán en Sarasota.

Ni en Europa ni en Nueva York. Aquí, en el Riverview Performing Arts Center, por una sola noche y como parte de NocheUnidos.

They left Cuba’s most famous dance company to build something of their own.

In 2018, Thaís Suárez and Norge Cedeño founded OtroLado Dance Company in Havana. They left Danza Contemporánea de Cuba after a decade as principal dancers, where they performed, among others, at Sadler’s Wells, Teatro Real, and Opéra de Monte-Carlo.

It was early in the 2010s, and UnidosNow was advocating for our community, working with first-generation students, and guiding families to integrate into the U.S.

It was just the beginning of our journey, and we didn't have the data to show our impact. But the Gulf Coast Community Foundation looked past that. They believed in the work we were starting and became the first major foundation to invest in us.

10+ years later, GCCF has accompanied us on our path to becoming the established nonprofit we are today. More than that, they have championed NocheUnidos from our first edition, and this year is no exception. We are deeply grateful for their commitment to our mission and vision, and we look forward to celebrating together on November 14.

100%. 100%. 100%. Todos y cada uno de los estudiantes de último año de nuestra Academia de Futuros Líderes se graduaron de la escuela secundaria. Todos se inscribieron en la universidad. Todos los estudiantes elegibles completaron la solicitud FAFSA.

No la mayoría. No casi todos. Todos.

Son 40 estudiantes de primera generación que ahora tienen un camino por delante, y 40 familias que pueden ser testigos de este logro.
