🌟 Student Success Story Friday 🌟

Today we’re sharing a past Rocket Phonics success story that reminds us why early reading support matters.

While Rocket Phonics now primarily serves younger students in the early grades, this story shows the life-changing impact that can happen when a child finally receives the reading help they need.

At 13 years old and six-foot-seven, “Tall” had one dream — making the high school basketball team.

But standing between him and that dream was something much harder: he couldn’t read.

After years of struggle, even Tall had begun to give up.

Then Rocket Phonics stepped in.

Twice a week for three months, Tall showed up. There were days he wanted to quit, but someone saw progress before he could see it in himself — and kept encouraging him.

By the end of middle school, Tall was scoring at or near grade level in every subject.

He walked into high school with something he had never had before: a chance.

Rocket Phonics didn’t just help Tall learn to read. It helped restore his confidence, reopen his future, and prove that the right reading support can change a child’s path.

That is why we focus on helping children earlier — before years of frustration take hold.

Since the school year ended last week, we are feeling so grateful. 💙🚀

This school year, 53 Rocket Phonics volunteer tutors gave an 𝟑,𝟐𝟎𝟎.𝟓 𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬
helping children practice sounds, read words, build confidence, and begin to say, “𝐈 𝐂𝐀𝐍 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐝.”

That number represents so much more than time.

It represents caring adults showing up.
School and community partners opening doors.
Children taking brave steps.
Tutors encouraging one sound and one word at a time.
And a community believing that every child deserves the chance to learn to read.

Our volunteer tutors included retired community members, snowbirds, college students, parents, grandparents, former educators, church members, and caring neighbors — all giving their time and heart to help children grow in reading confidence.

We are deeply grateful for our dedicated volunteer tutors, site coordinators, school partners, prayer warriors, donors, and community supporters who made this year possible.

Together, we are helping children grow in skills, confidence, and hope.

Rocket Phonics is listening & learning at The New Civic Path National Book Circle, a national conversation about becoming agents of hope in our communities. The Harwood Institute for Public Innovation

This connects deeply with the heart of our mission. Helping children learn to read is not something one person or one school can do alone. It takes tutors, families, teachers, churches, civic groups, donors, and community partners working together with hope and purpose.

At Rocket Phonics, every tutoring session is a small act of hope — one tutor, one child, one sound at a time.

We are looking forward to listening, learning, and bringing back ideas that can help us continue building stronger community partnerships for children and literacy.

Summer tutoring is kicking off today! ☀️📚🚀

Rocket Phonics is so grateful to begin summer reading support through new community partnerships with the Dream Center and Summer Success Institute.

We are thankful for the doors opening in our community, for our seasoned tutors who are helping lead and train, and for our newest tutors who are stepping in with willing hearts.

This summer, children will be practicing sounds, reading words, playing games, earning little incentives, and building confidence — because learning to read can be joyful.

Helping children learn to read truly takes a village — community partners, volunteers, families, and people who believe every child deserves the chance to say, “I CAN read.”

We are excited for this new season and grateful for everyone helping children grow in skills, confidence, and hope.
