On Wednesday 4/22, Center for Rural Affairs, Society of Care and CHEF Culinary Health Education and Fitness, hosted “Bead Sesh” with Kayleen Washington. Kayleen taught participants how to pe**te stitch wristlet keychains. Although the technique seems intimidating, participants caught on and were on a roll. Next session will be 4/29 12-3, if you can’t stay the entire time but would like to learn, feel free to stop by anyway for a short demo.

On April 14th, we wrapped up “Sankannica ‘Ribbon Dress’ Workshop” a 6 part series. Under the instruction of Leah Thomas, participants learned the history of the ribbon dress, incorporating it into the modern world, how to create the two pieces (skirt and shirt) and marketing strategies to sell pieces as a business opportunity. Resources were shared how to create an inventory to start creating in their own and create a business. A request has been received to host an evening session, so be on the lookout!
This workshop was made possible by the partnership between Center for Rural Affairs, Society of Care and CHEF Culinary Health Education and Fitness programs. Follow the pages of these programs to find out what classes will be offered.

Ending February with “ Wanap’in Kag’api” with Leah Thomas. During this jewelry making series, participants learned of the cultural importance of adornments, the history behind the items used (shells, bone pipe, elk/buffalo teeth). Participants got to create their own unique adornments and how to price creations if they were to create their own small business. Thank you to Leah Thomas for the instruction and to Society of Care and CHEF for partnering to provide this class for the community. Be on the lookout for more workshops.
