One organization (SAY) that helped make it possible for Santa Rosa to become a fair trade town! The Sonoma County Library has partnered with SAY (Social Advocates for Youth).

This summer the Sebastopol library will offer a series of free mental health classes for teenagers, thanks to an innovative partnership between the Sonoma County Library system and Social Advocates

The J.Crew Group and Fair Trade USA have formed a partnership to introduce a Fair Trade Certified denim collection for men and women. Sold at J.Crew and Madewell stores and on the retailers’ websites, the new clothing ranges from $60 to $128.

"First of its kind

The signing of the code, the first of its kind in East Africa, is a major win for suppliers, particularly local suppliers who have been operating at the mercy of retailers.

Suppliers says that the code will not only ensure they are promptly paid but it will also save them from foreign supermarket chains that enter the Kenyan market with conditions that many consider unfair."

Supermarket chains will be required to pay suppliers within an agreed timeframe.

"Appearing on Sunday's episode of Shark Tank, Uniform co-founders Chid Liberty and Adam Butlein also founded Liberty & Justice, a New York City-based textile company that bills itself as the first Fair Trade-certified apparel-manufacturing company in Africa. The business was generating $40 million in annual sales when, in 2014, the Ebola virus outbreak struck West Africa, killing more than 11,000 people and forcing the company to cease operations for more than a year.
