Throughout this week leading up to Trans Day of Remembrance (TDOR) on November 20th, we are uplifting some of the siblings we have lost this year to anti-trans violence. We refuse to let them be forgotten.🏳️‍⚧️🕯️

Our sister Kassim Omar was born in 1995 and died on September 6, 2024 in Columbus, Ohio at the age of 29. Kassim was shot by two teenagers in 2022 which left her paralyzed. She believed her assailants were motivated by a hatred of her identity. She died as a result of her injuries two years later. Kassim was born in Somalia and emigrated to the U.S. in 2015, and maintained close connections with her family living in a Kenyan refugee camp. Prior to her assault, Kassim loved to dance and sing, get dressed up to go out, and go on drives. Rest in power, Kassim.

Our sister Kita Bee was born on March 26, 1978 and died on May 3, 2024 in Kansas City, Missouri at the age of 46. Kita died in a hit and run incident involving two drivers. Kita was a mentor to others in her community, teaching other trans women how to survive and stay safe on the streets. She loved cooking, caring for her family, and entertaining others, including singing and dancing. Rest in power, Kita.

Our sibling Yella Clark was born on August 1, 1978 and died on April 2, 2024 in Angola, Louisiana at the age of 45. Yella was killed in custody at Angola Prison after an altercation with 3 other inmates. Friends incarcerated alongside Yella reported that Yella’s identity made Yella a target. Yella was described by loved ones as a loyal and trustworthy person. Rest in power, Yella.

Our sister Lexus Walker was born on July 28, 1980 and died on December 30, 2023 in Norfolk, Virginia at the age of 43. Lexus was killed when her car was hit head-on by a drunk driver. A passionate educator and advocate, Lexus worked at the LGBT Life Center and was a leader in her local LGBTQIA+ community. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion and resilience. Rest in power, Lexus.

Our sister Amiri Jean Reid was born in 2002 and died on November 14, 2023 in Toledo, Ohio at the age of 21. Amiri and her best friend Kejuan Richardson were driving together when they were shot by another driver. Amari spread positivity, had a great sense of humor, and is remembered as “the life of the party” by friends and family. Rest in power, Amiri.

Nuestra hermana A'nee Roberson nació en 1993 y murió el 14 de octubre de 2023 en Washington, D.C a la edad de 30 años tras ser atropellada por un coche mientras huía de un atacante. A'nee era acompañante de personajes en Six Flags America y le apasionaban el maquillaje y la música. Su familia aceptó su identidad y la echa profundamente de menos. Descansa en poder, A’nee.
