Meet Our Board: Herman G. Hernandez

Herman serves as the Executive Director of Los Cien Sonoma County and Trustee on the Sonoma County Board of Education. He has been involved with the Sonoma County Family YMCA since 2021 and is currently serving as Board Chair.

Herman was inspired to join the Y because of its commitment to creating healthy, connected, and inclusive communities for youth and families. One of his favorite Y programs is Youth & Government, where high school students learn leadership, advocacy, and what it takes to make real decisions at the State Capitol. He also loves seeing the impact of YMCA swim lessons firsthand through his daughter’s experience in the program. 💙

Fun facts about Herman:
- Rooting for both Mexico and the USA in the World Cup
- Proud Chipotle fan (“food is elite and always delicious and their portions are large. ”)
- Hardcore Giants, Niners, and Warriors fan
- Favorite book: The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho

It’s been one week since we wrapped up our 4-week Safety Around Water program with the Roseland School District, and we’re still feeling the impact.

Every year, we have the privilege of welcoming all second graders from the district to our Y—giving them access to lifesaving water safety skills. What makes this program so special is that families don’t pay a thing. We cover it all—transportation, swim instructors, lifeguards, swimsuits, towels—so every child can fully participate.

This program truly takes a village.
Thank you to our incredible staff for showing up with energy, care, and dedication every single day.
Thank you to the Roseland School District, teachers, and school staff for your partnership and support.
Thank you to the parents for trusting us with your children.
And thank you to our YMCA members for your patience and understanding as we adjusted pool hours to make this program possible.

To the kids—you are the reason we do this. Watching your confidence grow in the water each week is something we never take for granted. You leave a lasting impact on all of us.

We’re already looking forward to next year. 💙

Meet Demitri Tabora, our new Childcare and Camp Director!

Demitri is a Santa Rosa local who brings over 10 years of experience working with youth across Sonoma County. He’s passionate about being a positive role model and loves creating moments where kids can learn, grow, and just have fun.

He’s also a proud dad to his 6-year-old son—who keeps him on his toes with lightsaber battles and Taekwondo skills.

When he’s not at the Y, you can find him playing basketball, hiking, working out, or trying new foods.

Fun fact: He doesn’t drink coffee… but espresso martinis might be changing that.

Hot take: Pineapple does NOT belong on pizza 🍍🚫🍕
