Unite for Good and Make a Lasting Impact

Sunrise Rotarian Eloise Tweeten recently travelled to Mexico on a District 5130 Friendship tour to meet with other Rotarians and assess partnership opportunities amongst clubs and districts.

Maternal and childhood health was an identified area of focus and grant proposals written to reduce infant mortality and increase prenatal care. The Mexican Institute of Social Security and Rotary partners have created a comprehensive program for sustainable education, progress monitoring and intervention.

Where do each of us fit into the plan? This is an International collaborative approach, and the grant proposal total of $12,031 has pledges for all but $2000. Closing the gap is open to everyone, members of a Rotary Club or not. Clubs in Sebastopol, Valley of the Moon and Santa Rosa Sunrise and Windsor are current contributors along with Clubs in Tepic and Nayarit Mexico.

Add your support to this partnership! Your support in any amount will advance Maternal and Child health.

For additional information, contact Eloise Tweeten at [email protected].

Big check for a great cause! Last Thursday, our club presented a check for $14,000 to Marsha Lucien, Executive Director of the Family Justice Center of Sonoma County to support FJC's Camp Hope program.

Each year, the FJC sends two groups of campers (ages 7-11 and 12-17) to a sleep-away camp in Northern California. Camp HOPE America is the leading year-round camping and mentoring program in the country for children and teens impacted by domestic violence. Camp HOPE is focused on creating hope, healing-centered pathways, and life skills through collaborative, trauma-informed care for youth exposed to trauma to believe in themselves, their dreams, and in others.

We were honored to welcome Lisa G. Carreño, President & CEO of United Way of the Wine Country, along with members of her team, to speak with our Rotary club.

A big part of Lisa’s presentation focused on 211, an important community resource that helps connect people with local services and support when they need it most. It was a great reminder of just how many resources are available in our community—and how important it is that people know where to turn for help.

Thank you, Lisa and team, for joining us, sharing your knowledge, and for all you do to strengthen and support our Sonoma County community!

Here's to 'in-ciders' who volunteered at the apple cider at the Gravenstein Apple Fair to benefit Farm Trails. This photo was from Sunday with Sunrise Rotarians, Peter Treleaven and Max Childs. Penny Millar served on Saturday. Attendees were very happy to sample and purchase full pours of delicious apple cider!

Last week, Sunrise Rotary had the pleasure of hearing from Ciara Shuttleworth, Executive Director of the Polly Klaas Foundation and Polly Klaas Community Theater.

With more than 25 years of experience in the nonprofit sector, Ciara shared her passion for strengthening communities through connection, engagement, and service. We enjoyed learning more about her work and the continued impact of the Polly Klaas Foundation in our community.

Thank you, Ciara, for spending the morning with us and sharing your experience, passion, and commitment to making a difference!

Past President Penny, Past President Lori, Stacy, Christine and President Max attended the Sonoma County Area Rotary Club (SCARC) dinner hosted by the Sebastopol Sunrise Rotary Club at Balletto Winery on Thursday evening. Each club had an opportunity to introduce themselves and give an update on a project or fundraiser they are doing. We were treated to good eats catered by Sweet T's and, of course, Balleto's fine wine. We also heard more about a Dolly Good Time on 8/29 benefiting the Sonoma county Imagination Library and had a howdy doody good time!

Today’s Rotary meeting was a wonderful reminder of the impact that happens when people come together to serve others.

We were honored to welcome Santa Rosa Women For Good, an incredible local nonprofit that brings women together through connection, collective giving, and community engagement to support nonprofits across Sonoma County. Their mission is simple but powerful: to create meaningful local impact by building relationships, volunteering, and investing in organizations that make our community stronger. Together, their members have already contributed more than $80,000 to Sonoma County nonprofits—a testament to what can be accomplished when generosity is multiplied. (Santa Rosa Women for Good)

We also enjoyed hearing from Marty about his recent trip to Washington, where he had the opportunity to visit another Rotary club. He participated in a Rotary flag exchange—a cherished tradition that symbolizes the friendships and international connections Rotary creates around the world.

Thank you to our guests and members for another inspiring morning of fellowship, service, and community.

This week’s Rotary meeting was all about growth and connection! 🌟

We had a great discussion on new ideas and strategies for attracting future members and continuing to strengthen our club and our impact in the community.

We also had the opportunity to hear Brooke Zappelli’s Craft Talk, where she shared a little about her background, her journey, and what has shaped who she is today. Thank you, Brooke, for giving us a glimpse into your story and for reminding us that getting to know one another is one of the best parts of Rotary.

Interested in making a difference while building meaningful connections? We’d love to have you join us at an upcoming meeting!

Two inspiring talks at our meeting last week. Our guest speaker was William Ference, a 25‑year‑old who spoke thoughtfully and passionately about his lived experience with autism. A graduate of Sonoma State University, William earned his degree in English Literature Magna Cum Laude and continues to build a life shaped by curiosity, resilience, and determination. Throughout his journey, William has consistently challenged traditional expectations and demonstrated what is possible through self-belief, support, and perseverance.

And we got better acquainted with our own Jessica Dominguez, who gave her 'craft talk'. The mother of two young teenagers, she has risen steadily in her career with Exchange Bank and is now the manager of the Calistoga Rd. branch. We are so fortunate to have you in our club!
