🎒 The next generation of environmental stewards is learning about the Laguna all year round. From Learning Laguna’s hands-on field trips to summer days at Camp Tule, students of all ages experience science, nature, and connection to one of California’s most vital ecosystems as well as each other.

💚 Flexible funding ensures these programs continue to grow, reaching more students and deepening the positive impact on our community and the watershed we call home.

🌎 When you give, you invest in both the land and today’s young stewards — our future leaders — who will champion its protection. ✨Donate today at Lagunafoundation.org

🦎A healthy watershed protects all who call the Laguna home — including rare and endangered species found nowhere else in the world.

🌸The Laguna de Santa Rosa watershed supports an incredible diversity of life, providing vital habitat for species that depend on healthy wetlands, creeks, and uplands to survive. Protecting and restoring these ecosystems is ongoing, complex work that requires flexibility, long-term commitment, and collaboration.

🌱Unrestricted gifts allow us to respond to emerging needs, protect habitat, and accelerate restoration across the watershed.

🫶If protecting biodiversity matters to you, please support our work with a donation today. https://donatenow.networkforgood.org/LagunaFoundation

🌿✨ Celebrating a major milestone for restoration and community!

On May 14, our team joined partners and community members for the ribbon cutting of Colgan Creek Restoration Project Phase III in Santa Rosa...

Photo 1: Our staff at the celebration, standing together in support of this milestone restoration project.

Photo 2: Elected officials and City of Santa Rosa staff officially cutting the ribbon to mark the completion of Phase III.

This project represents the culmination of more than two decades of planning and phased restoration work along Lower Colgan Creek—transforming a once-channelized urban creek into a thriving habitat that supports wildlife, improves water quality, and expands access to open space for the surrounding community.

We are especially proud that the Laguna de Santa Rosa Foundation contributed to this final phase by growing and supplying thousands of native plants - propagated from locally collected seed - to help restore habitat along the creek corridor. Our staff and volunteers also participated in planting efforts alongside Santa Rosa Water and partners including Rainforest Rising.

This work was made possible through the City of Santa Rosa, California, California Department of Water Resources, Wildlife Conservation Board, Sonoma County Ag + Open Space, and many dedicated partners.

It was inspiring to witness the completion of this long-term collaborative effort—and to see the creek renewed as a living part of the landscape.

Grateful to be part of this work for our watershed. 💚

This International Day for Biological Diversity, we’re reflecting on the importance of protecting the rare wildflowers that return each spring to the Laguna’s vernal pools. 🌼

During a short seasonal window, our team conducts up to 38 surveys across multiple sites to monitor endangered plants found only in California, including Sonoma sunshine, Sebastopol meadowfoam, and Burke’s goldfields. 🏵

These species are highly sensitive to changing environmental conditions, making long-term monitoring essential for understanding ecosystem health and guiding restoration and conservation efforts across the watershed.

This work depends on strong partnerships with public agencies, nonprofits, and private landowners working together to protect biodiversity in our region. 💙💚

Stay tuned as we continue analyzing this year’s survey data.

🦉 update: Baby Barn Owls are growing fast at the Laguna Environmental Center!

The three baby owlets in the nesting box hatched April 9–11 and are already changing quickly. While they still have some of their fluffy white down, they’re actively molting - and their adult plumage is beginning to show through underneath.

If you look closely, you can already see patches of their future coloring and well-developed wing feathers emerging. This wing-flapping clip offers a great view of just how quickly they’re progressing.

It’s an incredible stage of transformation as they grow into the owls they’ll soon become. 🪶✨
