https://eaachapters.org/event-details/SR3128KYW Chapter 124 started its growth in the early sixties when a few enthusiasts who were aware of the Experimental Aircraft Association got together and probed the possibilities of forming their own Ch

apter. This became a reality when in 1962 the group was awarded a Charter as Chapter 124, and it has been moving onward and upward ever since. Mike Murphy's Cougar was the first homebuilt to fly in 1962, followed by Rex Cantrel's Pitts Special a few years later, and Bob Boehm's Starduster Too shortly thereafter. Since then, Chapter 124 has fledged a whole bevy of homebuilts, including a couple of Oshkosh Grand Champions and a Reno Racer that is almost a homebuilt. In April of 1972, Chapter 124 was able to obtain a long-term lease of some land at the Sonoma County Airport on which the Chapter financed and built its own hangars and tie-downs. Lloyd agreed that if members would supply the labor to construct it, he would purchase a hangar and have a well drilled. A year later the need for an on-site guard and security became necessary due to airplanes being vandalized. Once again, members joined together and with the help of Art Beer and his construction equipment, set up what we now know as our Facilities Chairman's house. Chapter 124 is also home to our latest addition... the CAFE Test Facility for the purpose of testing general aviation aircraft for performance and efficiency. Construction was completed April of 1993 and dedicated on Aviation Day, May 8, 1993. Our Chapter plays host to many activities during the year, such as our Annual Dinner / Dance, a barbeque, flyouts, and any other reason our members can think to get together and have a good time. All of our members have equal status, and all are encouraged to participate in our Chapter's functions. You need not own an airplane, and you don't even need to be a pilot. All you need is a love for airplanes, and if you have that, you will be among friends! Visit our Membership page to find out about becoming a member of Chapter 124!

October 1st General Meeting/ Presentation/ Dinner - Wednesday (Dinner specifics below).

This months presentation: "A Rookie’s Gambit Pays Off"

def: GAMBIT “gam-bet”- noun: The taking of a deliberate, calculated risk in hope of gaining an advantage.

6 years ago, EAA 124 Chapter Member Otis Holt was a pilot with about 38 years experience who had not ventured much into aerobatics. In 2018 he acquired an RV-7A and decided to take a few aerobatic lessons in it. Since then, you can regularly find Otis doing loops, rolls, and wingovers whenever out flying. He tries to make a point of pulling at least 3.5 G’s somewhere during each solo flight! But inside, the nagging feeling to expand his personal envelope kept pulling at him.

A couple of months ago he stumbled upon a promotional YouTube video made by Jared Sebesta, owner of Gambit Aviation in Aurora, Illinois. Jared calmly invited viewers in to come for instruction in the unlimited aerobatic Extra 330LX while simultaneously performing Lomcevaks and other tumbling airshow maneuvers in the airplane solo. Otis was hooked!

At the age of 74, with no experience in inverted flight or extreme aerobatic maneuvers, he decided to take his ‘Gambit’! He committed to a 20-hour round trip to Illinois in his RV-7A for two full weeks of intensive aerobatic training in the Extra, and some aerobatic instruction in the RV! Come listen to Otis’ tale of adventures in the Extra 330LX and more. He’s got a great presentation of the incredible experience and we’ll give you a hint... The gambit paid off, big-time!

Look forward to seeing you there~!!

BONUS ROUND - OTIS has graciously donated a few flights with him in his RV-7A to experience some of these maneuvers! We’ll be having a raffle as well as some bidding to raise funds for the Chapter!! Go for a flight with Otis and his new skill set in the RV-7A!! He's armed with a whole new level of skill and his RV-7A is truly an incredible machine! If you haven’t seen it or flown in it - you have to!!

Help us raise some funds and go for an unforgettable experience!! Brings some extra cash to bid on the prize!!
