Sonoma County and the nation are in a mental health crisis. Community Mental Health Clinics like Lomi Psychotherapy Clinic help fill a crucial gap in care.

We're grateful for conversations like this led by the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors and Department of Health Services.

There is an epidemic of mental illness in this country these days, and if you ask the people who have to deal with the consequences, it becomes clear that everyone is affected by it. John Ramos reports.

Equity means access. Let that sink in.

At Lomi, we have been working hard for over 35 years to ensure that the folks in our Sonoma County community who cannot afford mental healthcare can receive free or very low-cost therapy. Our communities are safer and healthier because of this access to essential care. And more is needed!

On Saturday, May 13th, we are participating in the annual fundraising event called Sonoma County Human Race! to help raise funds for the Lomi Clinic. The Human Race is Sonoma County’s largest collaborative fundraising event. An established icon in the community, The Human Race has raised over $25 million dollars for nearly 7,700 local nonprofits over the past 38 years.

All contributions to the Lomi Clinic go towards providing low-cost mental health services for Sonoma County.

The Human Race is a family-friendly, dog-friendly (for friendly dogs), and costume-friendly event! Invite your neighbors, invite your friends, and come gather with community at Old Courthouse Square. Join the race, or come say hi at our booth at the community village.

"Feeling anxious? You're far from alone. During the pandemic, rates of anxiety and depression soared around the globe, resulting in a shortage of mental health care providers and long wait times for therapy.

But, according to a new study from Stanford Medicine, there's an easy, at-home way to help lower your stress level: It's called cyclic sighing, a controlled breathing exercise that emphasizes long exhalations. What's more, it can take as little as five minutes to experience less anxiety, a better mood and even decreased rates of breathing at rest, a sign of overall body calmness".

Group Therapy Class starting March 22nd at Lomi Psychotherapy Clinic!

This short-term group is meant for those longing to connect with others more deeply than surface day-to-day interactions. Maybe you are impacted by barriers of the pandemic, a busy work life or general feelings of isolation. You will learn skills to communicate and deepen your understanding of how to relate to other members in your community. Together we will practice mindfulness and body-based techniques led by a somatically trained therapist as a core focus of the group.

This study highlights why community mental health clinics like Lomi Psychotherapy Clinic are essential in helping fill the gap in accessible, affordable mental health care.

"Despite this strong demand and growing societal awareness of the importance of mental health in the U.S., the study revealed that the overwhelming majority of Americans (74%) do not believe such services are accessible for everyone, and about half (47%) believe options are limited.

These beliefs are driven by several perceived barriers in Americans’ ability to seek mental health treatment, including:

High Cost and Insufficient Insurance Coverage, Limited Options, and Long Waits.

American mental health services are insufficient and the root of the problem is lack of access to care.
