Today, as we observe Indigenous Peoples Day, we pay our respects to the elders of our communities—both past and present—who have paved the way for future generations.

We acknowledge the long history of struggle and resilience that Indigenous peoples have faced in the United States. It wasn’t until 1924 that Indigenous peoples were granted U.S. citizenship and, in many cases, even longer to secure the right to vote. While we celebrate these milestones, it’s essential to acknowledge that there is still much work to be done in the fight for equality, justice, and recognition of Indigenous rights.

At Redemption House, we stand in solidarity with Indigenous communities, working towards a future where all voices are heard and respected.

Community Member’s Call Leads to Human Trafficking Rescue

During the evening of September 28, officers responded to a business in the 4300 block of Central Place after a concerned community member reported seeing a young woman in distress.

Officers contacted the woman and determined she was the victim of human trafficking. The suspect, identified as 36-year-old Kenan Shackelford, was quickly located and detained nearby.

During the investigation, officers determined Shackelford had prior felony convictions and was in possession of a handgun and am******on. He was subsequently arrested on charges including human trafficking, pimping, and firearms-related offenses.

The Fairfield Police Department is grateful to the community member who recognized that something was wrong and took the time to report it. That call helped officers intervene and rescue a victim from a dangerous situation.

HUMAN TRAFFICKING OPERATION

On September 24, 2026, Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety conducted a human trafficking operation focused on identifying individuals seeking to exploit minors for commercial sexual activity.

During the operation, investigators identified a Santa Rosa resident as a suspect. Based on evidence developed during the investigation, the suspect was arrested in Santa Rosa at approximately 12:50 p.m.

The suspect was arrested for alleged violations of:
• California Penal Code § 236.1(c)(1) – Commercial S*x Acts with a Minor
• California Penal Code § 288.4(b) – Arranging a Meeting with a Minor for Lewd Purposes

Rohnert Park DPS remains committed to proactively investigating child exploitation and crimes targeting minors and will continue taking enforcement action when probable cause exists.

All persons arrested or accused of a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
