🌿✨ Join us for an inspiring presentation with Nik Dyer of Permaculture Artisans!

Nik will introduce the ecological approach behind Permaculture Artisans and share how regenerative landscape design, installation, and maintenance can transform the way we care for our land. Through real-life examples, he’ll show how this alternative method can increase food yields, manage water more sustainably, restore habitat, and even reduce fire risk, all while benefiting homeowners and the broader community.

You’ll also learn the fundamentals of permaculture design and walk away with practical tips to become a better steward of the land you call home. 🌎💚

Join us for a special program from Singing Frogs Farm! Presented by Elizabeth Kaiser. Elizabeth and Paul Kaiser have spent 18 years developing their regenerative farming system at Singing Frogs Farm, including 16 years of no-till practices, and Elizabeth will share the story of their journey. By working with nature to create ecological balance—using perennial plantings and hedgerows that attract beneficial insects to manage pests—the farm demonstrates a highly productive, sustainable approach that leaves visitors inspired and amazed. 🌱 Doors open at 12:30, general meeting at 1pm, and presentation starts at 2pm.

Jani is a Sonoma County Garden Designer with experience as a wedding planner and florist, a manager to the Nursery at Emerisa Gardens, and a U.C. Extension Program instructor in Ornamental Horticulture.

Jani will be showing us different design elements in the garden focused on form, foliage and texture. She will be bringing plants to show us examples of plantings utilizing these elements. This will also be instructional in terms of types of plants and their behaviors. Conifers and grasses will be showcased as a part of this lecture. This is an opportunity to put some of her design principles to use in your own landscape. Jani will be selling the plants that she brings for the Program!

Join us Nov 24th! Boring Farm is a “U-Pick” Raspberry Farm in Sebastopol. Rachel Boring will be giving us a little background on how she became the owner of Boring Farm, as well as a presentation on her farm's regenerative and organic practices, sharing how she works with the land to promote healthy soil, pollinators, and long-term sustainability. From pasture-raised animals to thoughtfully managed raspberry bramble, her approach blends traditional methods with modern ecological understanding. It’s a great opportunity to learn more about local agriculture and gain inspiration for our own gardens.

Curtis Short is back! This Radical Root Care lecture and slide presentation is designed for anyone interested in growing trees or shrubs—or simply curious about how woody roots grow and how to support their health. We’ll explore root system structure and how to adjust practices to meet root needs. You’ll see common mistakes, like poor planting methods that stunt growth or soil coverings that suffocate roots, and learn how to avoid them. We’ll also cover why phosphorus fertilizer can be harmful, how to encourage beneficial mycorrhizal fungi, and where to place irrigation for best results. By the end, you’ll be equipped with practical knowledge to make smarter root care decisions.

The Garden Club is thrilled to kick off the season with a special visit from the Santa Rosa Fire Department! Join us for our first program of the year on Monday, September 22nd, at 12:30 p.m. This free event is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about fire safety, ask questions, and gain valuable tips on protecting our homes and gardens. We can’t wait to see you there as we start the season off strong!
