Mubaku Educational Foundation Newsletter #14
Greetings, Mubaku Bright Future Nursery and Primary School Sponsors!
The first term of the school year has come to an end, and the second term started Monday. In Term One of the 2026 school year, we achieved our highest enrollment ever, with 232 students. Among these, 135 are sponsored students, and we also have 17 graduates from Mubaku Bright Future School, who are now attending secondary boarding school on scholarships given through Mubaku Educational Foundation.
We have 21 students in Primary 7 (14 girls and 7 boys) who will be eligible to take the Primary Leaving Examinations in December. Successfully passing these exams will allow them to continue their education in secondary boarding school, provided that enough sponsors can be found. The Primary 7 class has stayed during the break to receive additional tutoring to prepare for their end-of-year exams in December. The total cost to send all 21 students to Secondary School will be $9,660 per year ($460 per student). We would greatly appreciate early commitments from sponsors to help support these children.
75% of the solar-powered clean water project has been funded. You can track the project's progress at https://mubakuschool.org/modern-plumbing/. This initiative will supply water to the entire school for toilets, showers, and sinks, and will also provide access to the surrounding community through an external tap outside of the school fence. This tap will reduce disruptions caused by community members accessing the borehole during school hours.
We are currently facing new challenges due to the recent oil discovery in Uganda. This development has led to increased demand for workers with secondary education and higher qualifications, which is drawing away many teachers who desire the higher salaries. In order to retain teachers, we must increase their teaching salaries.
To address these salary concerns and cover the increased teacher salaries, there is a need to increase the cost of sponsorships. Specifically, it will now cost $85 USD per year to sponsor a day student and $185 USD per year to sponsor a child to attend school and stay in the dorms. Additionally, the cost of sending a child to a secondary boarding boarding school will increase to $460 USD per year. Secondary boarding schools are experiencing challenges similar to those faced by Mubaku Bright Future School.
One project aimed at improving teacher recruitment and retention involves constructing dedicated teacher housing. Currently, teachers live in the same mud huts as the rest of the village. The village has decided that this housing initiative will take place after the completion of the solar powered clean running water project. An early estimate for this project is $20,000.
Future projects include the following, with priorities set by Mubaku village.
* More sewing machines & training for Women’s Empowerment Center= $1,200
* Large shade structure for roadside store = $8,000
* Upper campus large shade structures = $8,000 Estimate
* Kitchen and covered eating area = $16,000 Estimate
* 21 kids will need secondary scholarships @ $460 a year starting January 2027
* Build a secondary school (Future)
Will you join us in supporting these initiatives? Your donations will make a lasting impact. Please consider making a contribution or sharing this list with others who may be able to help. Donate at https://mubakuschool.org/donate/
We just received word that some areas of Uganda will be locking down due to the Ebola outbreak in the Congo. It looks like the school will remain open, but only for students on campus. The village may have the children, who normally attend only day schooo, stay at the school. That means we’ll have to feed more children breakfast and dinner, and on weekends. We’ll send a short update once we have more information.
