A huge thank you to South Walton High School Baseball for allowing our Machine Pitch Softball All-Stars to practice on the turf this week.

With another round of tournament play ahead on turf fields in Okaloosa County, this time at Destin Little League, the opportunity to prepare on a similar surface is invaluable.

We appreciate your support of our young athletes and wish our girls the best of luck this weekend!

🚨 ATTENTION SOUTH WALTON PARENTS 🚨

This is your opportunity to be heard.

If you want to prevent a future where South Walton families are forced to leave the area for their children’s baseball, softball, soccer, lacrosse, football, basketball, and other recreational activities, now is the time to show up.

As “unincorporated” South Walton, we DO NOT have a local city government investing directly into our parks and recreation facilities. Instead, decisions impacting our community require support from 3 of the 5 County Commissioners.

While much of Walton County’s tax base is generated south of the bay, investments in South Walton are ultimately decided by elected officials representing the entire county. (With 3 of the 5 commissioners residing north of the bridge). If we want our priorities recognized, we have to SHOW UP and be heard.

Ask yourself:

• Which portion of the county is the largest contributor to Walton County’s tax base? Why is that one particular area unincorporated and at the mercy of county wide elected officials? Are we receiving our fair share of investment in parks and recreation?

• If additional homestead exemptions are approved, where will a larger percentage of the County’s tax revenue come from?

• Where are the majority of non-homesteaded properties located?

• What does the future of youth sports and recreation look like in South Walton if we don’t advocate for ourselves?

When will enough be enough? Will we finally incorporate like surrounding beach communities Destin & Panama City Beach to govern ourselves and keep our tax revenue in South Walton?

The reality today:

• South Walton Little League is the largest Little League program in Walton County.

• We operate with only three baseball and softball fields.

• Why do we not have simple amenities like a covered batting cage? Where is the last park you’ve visited that didn’t have this?

• Participation continues to grow, but facility investment has not kept pace.

Do you want facilities that reflect the taxes being paid in South Walton?

Do you want your children and grandchildren to have quality recreational opportunities close to home?

On Wednesday night, coaches, commissioners and parents got together to workshop solutions. Freeport is one of the fastest-growing cities in the county, but residents said they don’t have enough field space to support the growing population.

Walton County Board of County Commissioners staff will hold public workshops on the following dates and locations:

• Wednesday, June 3, 2026 from 5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Freeport Boardroom 842 State Highway 20 East, Suite 118 Freeport, Florida 32439

• Monday, June 8, 2026 from 5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. South Walton Annex Board Room 31 Coastal Centre Boulevard Santa Rosa Beach, Florida 32459

• Wednesday, June 10, 2026 from 5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. DeFuniak Springs Boardroom 571 US Highway 90 East DeFuniak Springs, FL 32433

The purpose of these workshops is to receive community input on Recreation Fields and Facility needs.
Members of the public are encouraged to attend and provide input.

Please be advised that two or more commissioners may attend.

Both Machine Pitch Softball & Baseball are back in action tonight against coastal rival Destin Little League!

Should be some great action in Shalimar tonight as these kids continue their District 1 tournament run.

Let’s pack the stands and bring the energy for our boys and girls in green!

These girls have worked so hard for this opportunity. From being perennial underdogs to earning a spot to compete for a District 1 Championship, this moment is years in the making.

The smiles in this picture tell the story better than words ever could.

Enjoy tonight, girls. You earned it. But the job’s not finished!

Maybe there’s a pot of gold for turf fields on the other side of that rainbow…

Unfortunately, Mother Nature had other plans tonight and all star practices are washed out. We’ll regroup and try again tomorrow.

Walton County is seeking citizen input regarding Parks & Recreation activities in a new public survey. The results will play a vital role in upcoming workshop meetings. The survey only takes a few minutes, but it will give county recreational officials help in determining what is important to our residents.

That’s a wrap for our 9U boys after falling short to Niceville yesterday evening.

This group battled hard and gave us plenty to be proud of this post season.

Enjoy the summer, keep getting swings in, and we’ll see everyone back out at Dune Lakes before you know it.

We know these boys will be putting in the time this offseason and coming back even stronger next spring!
