Earth Angel David Benton of our Southern California Wing was recently featured in Cornell University’s “Snack Bar” alumni newsletter, highlighting his experience driving passengers to and from their medical facilities.

David’s introduction to Angel Flights began when he worked as a hotelier and assisted in organizing gala fundraisers for Angel Flight East. After moving to California, David decided to get involved with AFW as an Earth Angel driver in 2025. Since joining, David has completed eight Earth Angel missions ensuring those in his passenger seat have reliable transportation to the health care they need.

“It gives me a purpose to fulfill,” David shared with Linda Copman, Communications Specialist at Cornell. We’re deeply appreciative of his commitment to our mission and for all he does for our passengers — thank you, David!

We're grateful for the support of Ironbird Partners!

Barriers such as distance and the cost of travel often prevent people from accessing the health care they need — that's where our incredible volunteer pilots and Earth Angel drivers come in to bridge the gap.

Thank you to AFW Board Chair Emily Deaton for representing us on Ironbird Partners' latest podcast episode.

A child in Boise needs pediatric oncology care that isn't available locally. The drive is eight hours each way, multiple times a month.

The financial and physical cost to the family is enormous.

Angel Flight West coordinates a volunteer pilot — someone who already owns an airplane and's flying that route or a nearby route — to take them. Free.

The patient shows up at a small airport and flies to their treatment.

Meet AFW’s Employee of the Quarter: Anne Paik! Anne is our Strategy and Operations Manager and has been with AFW for 10 years.

When asked what her favorite part of working at AFW is, Anne shared, “My favorite part is definitely the mission and the people! The staff, volunteers, and board members who support the organization are truly special.”

“They're passionate, kind, and don't shy away from hard work — all because they believe that everyone who needs life-saving treatment deserves a real shot at getting it,” says Anne. “That will never stop being meaningful to me, and I am truly grateful to be part of this community.”
