Pictured here is AFW passenger Carrie with volunteer Command Pilot Kerry Riley during an angel flight mission earlier this year. Carrie lives in Orange County, California, but receives care at Mayo Clinic in Phoenix — a 455-mile commute from her home.

Because of the generosity and kindness of both the Anaheim Ducks Foundation and volunteer pilots like Kerry, Carrie has been given six angel flights to date to ensure she has access to her healthcare team.

Dustin Bray | Jim Hesseman Award for Aviation Philanthropy
An AFW volunteer pilot since 2022, Dustin has completed 91 missions, generously sharing his time and passion for aviation to help passengers access life-changing care.

Phoenix Children’s Hospital | Inspiration Award
Since 2015, AFW has completed 226 flights supporting patients and families traveling to Phoenix Children’s, whose commitment to compassionate, world-class care continues to inspire us.

Eli M. | Passenger Perseverance Award
For two years, Eli has flown with AFW to receive essential care at Phoenix Children’s Hospital. His resilience and special bond with our volunteer pilots make him an inspiration to us all.

Congratulations to UCLA Health — it was an honor to present you with the 2026 Community Partnership Award earlier this month in Los Angeles!

We’re deeply grateful to be partnered with UCLA Health and for the world-class care they provide to their patients and our passengers. For the past 10 years, AFW and UCLA Health have worked together to serve 242 unique passengers and 253 of their companions, completing 2,747 volunteer and commercial flight legs to ensure these passengers have access to the essential care they need.

We’re continually in awe of the healthcare requesters, social workers, and the entire team at UCLA Health who advocate for their patients daily, bridging the gap between transportation barriers and vital health care.

Our sincere gratitude to our commercial airline partner Hawaiian Airlines and Command Pilot and Hawai’i Wing Leader Ace Ellinwood for ensuring our passenger Michelle made it safely from her home in Wailuku to her essential care at Queens Medical Center (The Queen's Health Systems) in Honolulu — and back home again.

Of the flight experience she shared with her husband Mitchell, Michelle said, “Thank you Hawaiian Airlines and Angel Flight West! Hawaiian Airlines covered our flight from Maui to O’ahu for my post-op appointment with my surgeon. Ace flew us back to O’ahu on his plane which was such an amazing experience.”

“We got to see up-close views of the Hawaiian islands that we’ve never seen before,” Michelle shared. “Inter-island flights have been expensive and unfortunately my insurance doesn’t cover flight expenses, so we feel so blessed to be given this opportunity. Mahalo nui — thank you so much!!”

We’re deeply grateful for the care and commitment both Hawaiian Airlines and Ace continually show our Hawai’i passengers, making sure they can access the medical treatment they need.

Spotlight on a Healthcare Worker: Meet Dr. Adam Angeles

Since the summer of 2024, Dr. Adam Angeles of the Angeles Wound Care Institute in Bend, Oregon, has been flying with Angel Flight West to ensure that patients in rural Oregon have access to the specialized wound care they need.

Thanks to the generosity of volunteer pilots like Rob Brunner — pictured here with Dr. Angeles during a mission last summer — Dr. Angeles has been able to provide care to patients living in remote areas of the state such as John Day, saving them from a 175-mile drive to Bend where his facility is located.

"This collaboration allows our team to reach individuals who would otherwise have no means of accessing the specialized care they need,” says Dr. Angeles.

We’re deeply grateful for the healthcare teams and volunteer pilots who are committed to making sure patients receive the critical health care they need despite distance barriers. Thank you to Dr. Angeles and Rob Brunner for all they do!

Spotlight on a Partner: Waymo

We’re still reflecting on how amazing our 9th annual Run for the Angels 5K was! It was a beautiful morning full of hope, healing, and generosity in our Colorado Wing. With a record turnout of 300+ participants, the event raised over $20,000 to help give the gift of flight to those in medical need.

This year, we were excited to welcome Waymo as a new sponsor and partner. The Waymo team brought their new Ojai vehicle to the runway, giving attendees a firsthand look at their innovative technology. There was plenty of excitement from the crowd about the possibility of Waymo making its way to Colorado in the future!

We’re incredibly grateful to Waymo for supporting our 9th annual Run for the Angels 5K and for joining us in support of our mission. Their enthusiasm and partnership helped make this year’s event one to remember.

And of course, thank you to every participant, volunteer, sponsor, and supporter who made the morning so special. We’re already looking forward to seeing what’s in store for our 10th annual Run for the Angels 5K!
