WORLD RANGERS DAY
Quietly, Rangers are at the forefront of protecting and managing some of the World’s most precious resources. They are dedicated individuals working hard to ensure the natural world remains. Rangers, carrying out many critical conservation functions around the globe, go about their calling without much recognition or reward. And often at great peril to make sure that park or resource, that habitat or species, survives another day under intense modern pressures.
I know many such men and women. Around the world, they are family to me. I spent decades as a Ranger myself( in photos), and I support their efforts anyway I can.
On July 31, World Rangers Day, I encourage anyone concerned about our natural world to pay homage to all “Rangers”, past and present, by showing your appreciation in some form.
It was with such appreciation and personal understanding of Ranger’s critical role in our planets survival that I created a project within our 501 C-3 charity “NOONETIME.ORG” to support one special group of Rangers. In alliance with Suyian Trust we support 30 Kenyan Forest Rangers/Scouts who protect a highly threatened eco-system on Karisia Mountain in Kenya, East Africa. We support them with uniforms, equipment, recognition, and appreciation. Only an estimated 1% of these indigenous forests remain in the arid north of Kenya. This increasingly dry area is home to a wide range of lives that depend on this “Desert Island” to survive year round. Humans, elephant, leopard, plants, crops, and herbs critical to the practice traditional medicine, rely on its sustainability. Like many eco-systems around the world, it is under extreme pressure from many fronts, These Karisia Ranger work hard to protect what remains.
If you are called to support our Karisia Ranger Conservation Project it is easy to learn more and donate online through NOONETIME.ORG and it’s Causes & Conservation page.
The Thin Green Line Foundation is another resource to learn about the work rangers do worldwide.
Please acknowledge a Ranger on World Ranger’s Day!
