Santa Monica Elks Lodge #906 participated in The Dictionary Project, delivering 932 dictionaries to students at 16 schools throughout the Santa Monica and West Los Angeles area.

At Edison Elementary School, Principal Elizabeth Ipiña welcomed Lodge Trustee and Youth Activities Chair Gloria Halfacre into three classrooms to distribute Spanish-English dictionaries. Gloria and Principal Ipiña explained the program and reminded students that the dictionaries were theirs to keep.

The students’ excitement was heartwarming, with one question capturing the moment perfectly: “We get to keep them forever and ever?”

The Dictionary Project helps students strengthen their language skills, build vocabulary, and develop a lifelong love of learning. By placing dictionaries directly into the hands of young learners, Santa Monica Elks Lodge #906 is investing in more than literacy—it is investing in the future of our community. Each dictionary represents an opportunity for students to expand their vocabulary, build confidence, explore new ideas, and discover the power of words.

Through programs like The Dictionary Project, Santa Monica Elks Lodge #906 continues to demonstrate its commitment to supporting education, empowering young people, and making a lasting difference in the lives of children and families throughout the community.

October is ENF month! Find out more about how ENF helps lodges build better communities. Santa Monica Elks Lodge has secured 5 grants offered through ENF totaling $22,500! We will be directly impacting the lives of veterans, children in need at our local schools, folks experiencing food insecurity and much more.

We’ve been helping Elks build stronger communities since 1928, when founder and Past National President John F. Malley set out to build a “temple of philanthropy” that would “unite the forces of the Order into a mighty army for the service of humankind.”

But how do we do this? By investing in the communities where Elks live and work.

This fiscal year, we've allocated $53.8 million to improve the quality of life in local Elks communities, help the state Elks associations accomplish their charitable objectives, meet the needs of today's veterans, provide our youth with lifelong skills, and more.

Calling all high school seniors: The application for the 2027 Most Valuable Student scholarship contest is currently open!

We will award 500 scholarships ranging from $4,000 to $30,000 over four years. No relation to the Elks is necessary to apply.

With this scholarship, students gain more than just financial aid—they gain an appreciation of service, a network of like-minded peers, and an for life.

Yesterday the Veterans team had a very productive day at the West LA VA campus! We delivered 10 more Welcome Home kits. We supplied 10 Cooking Class kits for upcoming classes for veterans. We also toured the Cal-Vets facility and got to meet one of the residents, Mr Banks and one of the therapy dogs, Elvis Presley! Our kids were racing with all the wonderful opportunities to help our veterans!
