Being in front of the camera is 🫣 which is crazy because once upon a time I was an actress and a singer, not an athlete, but here we are.

We’re moving toward almost 25 years of Surf Bus visits and there is something about this 24th year that feels extra important to me. Yes, the post is about what we have coming up, but you’ve got to know that our purpose is deeply personal.

It is not hyperbole when I say the ocean saves me daily. I have the tools to move through each day because of the lessons I learn in the sea. If we can help any amount of children find their footing and more family in the flow of the ocean, what a miracle of connection.

We were grounded for 4.5 months of 2025 because of the Palisades and Eaton fires. Our County was hurting, and thanks to all the surfboard and wetsuit donors (YOU!) and our sister , we got a chance to pivot and help the surf community at large rebuild their surf closets so that their ocean connection could be sustained while lives got rebuilt.

We started forging connections with communities displaced by the Eaton Fire and partnered with for a surf therapy day. This summer we will host our new friends from La Pintoresca Teen Center.

Nick Gabaldon Day meant more than ever as it was the first proper day of community connection in 6 months post fire. We are ever grateful for our friends for inviting us to collaborate on what has been the Westside’s favorite surf day of the year for over a decade.

Lindsay Horvath sponsored our event, a celebration of the resiliency of the ocean and her faithful stewards.
•••
The LA County Board of Supervisors supported us for the second summer in 23 years with buses to bring youth and their caregivers to the water for surf therapy.
•••
We are ever grateful to all Angelenos for your trust as we move into our 24th year introducing the children of LA County to surf therapy through ocean play, literacy, safety, and stewardship.
