Rainn Wilson--of The Office and Backstrom--is having an event at his private home TOMORROW--on Sunday, April 30th at 8p--and all youth are invited!

He says: "There is an opportunity for the youth (ages 14 & 1/2 to 25, or older!) of California to offer 4-8 weeks (or more) towards the betterment of the world through walking a path of service this summer.

Parents are most welcome also. All are welcome, even if you can’t participate this summer! All are welcome, period!"

Please RSVP to Maryam Hanser for Rainn's address! Hope to see you there!

TODAY: come join us at the Pier!

Faith, Hope and Love: One Nation Indivisible

Please join the Santa Monica Area Interfaith Council and Friends Sunday, October 16 (tomorrow!) for the first of two brief, public, interfaith unity events seeking to calm our hearts and minds and heal our community and nation during this divisive election season.

No matter what your political or religious affiliation, you are welcome to join us. We believe that our faith and values matter, especially during times of division.

On the bluffs overlooking the beautiful, vast ocean, we will reconnect and remember who we are amidst all the spin and accusations and divisive rhetoric. You are invited to step into a place of healing and love.

The event will begin at 2pm on the north side of the Santa Monica pier. Look for the banner.

Vocal Performance: Choral group New Directions will provide a musical offering dedicated to faith, hope, and love.
Group Song: Folk singer Ross Altman will lead our group unity songs.
Prayer: We will open the mic for anyone who would like to lead a prayer for unity in their own religious tradition

The event will conclude by 3 p.m.

The recent Paris terrorist attacks brutally underscore the themes of three of our most recent Gatherings: (1) Can religion ever be a force for peace? (2) Is there meaning in senseless mass killings? And (3) is true global security ever possible?

The Santa Monica Baha'is--who host these Gatherings--have clear answers in their faith, which teaches that religion can be an extremely potent force for peace, but that the divine teachings are often misused by extremists for political ends. Senseless killings have meaning in that they remind us of the transience of life and the permanence of the divine, and serve as belated wake-up calls to think about how we have organized ourselves as a society. And Baha'is believe that true global security will only be possible within a global framework, where we all see each other as one human family, citizens of a common planet.
