⚠️ Drought conditions across New Mexico are increasing the risk of wildfires, and fireworks can quickly turn a celebration into a dangerous situation.

As we head into the summer season, it's important to remember that one spark can have devastating consequences for our communities, natural resources, and first responders.

New Mexico is already experiencing wildfire activity, which serves as a reminder of how quickly fires can spread under dry conditions.

Municipalities have options under New Mexico law to restrict or ban certain fireworks when extreme or severe drought conditions exist. Taking proactive steps now can help protect lives, property, and natural resources.

❤️ Be careful. Be responsible. Help prevent wildfires this summer season.

The New Mexico Municipal League is pleased to share our new report: Emergency Response in the Village of Ruidoso: Skilled People, Modern Technology, and Well-Defined Procedures and Planning.

Developed through site visits and interviews with Ruidoso leadership, this report highlights the emergency management practices, planning, and partnerships that helped protect lives and livelihoods during recent wildfires and subsequent flash floods. It also offers practical recommendations municipalities can begin implementing today.

A special thank you to the Village of Ruidoso, Mayor Lynn Crawford, Village Manager Ron Sena, and Emergency Manager Eric Queller for their collaboration on this important report.
