This "sing" will take place at the United Church of Santa Fe, 1804 Arroyo Chamiso, from 7 - 9 pm.

To register for this absolutely free event, go here: http://www.unitedchurchofsantafe.org/charles-bruffy-choral-workshop-wednesday-feb-19-700-pm/

Please note the following:

Sacred Harp

Please join us for community singing from The Sacred Harp tunebook: no experience, ability or commitment needed. Loaner books will be available. See below for more about Sacred Harp singing.

When: Sunday, February 2, 2 - 4:30 pm

Where: Commons Cohousing Community, 2300 W Alameda (fragrance free venue), Santa Fe

Directions: Take W Alameda till you see house numbers in the 2200s. Turn L just after crossroads sign onto Camino Carlos Rael (sign on R says C. Encantada) and take first R into parking lot, which is one-way. Cross footbridge toward compound and look for Sacred Harp Singing sign on 1st door to L.

Sacred Harp singing - also called “shape note singing” because the musical notation uses note heads in 4 different shapes to aid sight-reading - is a uniquely American tradition. It brings people together to sing four-part unaccompanied hymns deriving from the colonial period to the present day. It’s a living tradition and a proudly inclusive and democratic part of our cultural heritage. The Sacred Harp, which refers to the human voice, is the shape-note book in the widest use today.

Sacred Harp singings are neither performances nor rehearsals. We sing for the joy of singing and for each other. We use written music but you can also learn by ear from singers around you. Singing is exuberant and vibrant, and attracts people of various religious beliefs and no belief at all. There is no one leader or conductor: all singers have the opportunity to choose and lead songs if they like. Visitors are always welcome to come and listen.

Sangre de Cristo Chorale

The Sangre de Cristo Chorale will present a special Valentine’s dinner concert, L’amour, in Santa Fe at St. Bede’s Episcopal Church on Friday, February 14 at 6:30 p.m.

Attendees will be serenaded as they arrive, and each of course of the evening’s menu will have a set of love-themed tunes to get diners in the spirit of the day. The range of love songs includes selections by George Gershwin and Cole Porter, well-known numbers from musicals such as South Pacific and Brigadoon, as well as cabaret songs by William Bolcom and Édith Piaf. The Italian-themed three-course menu takes some inspiration from romantic dinners featured in Hollywood movies such as the Disney classic The Lady and the Tramp. To quote Charles M. Schultz, the creator of Peanuts and a homespun philosopher, “All you need is love. But a little chocolate now and then doesn’t hurt.”

This is the first dinner concert offered by the Sangre de Cristo Chorale in over a decade. For more than 20 years, the Chorale held an annual dinner concert in December. Music Director Fred Graham said, “We thought it would be a fun way to celebrate the holiday and feature our singers in a different way with selections from the great American songbook and other romantic surprises!”

Accompanist: Deborah Wagner

Johann Sebastian Bach, The Well-Tempered Clavier (Book I)

Jacquelyn Helin will perform the first complete book of Johann Sebastian Bach’s famous work for keyboard. At this point in time, equal temperament was just beginning to come into use. The upside of equal temperament is that a work can be performed in any key and, in theory, sound reasonably well in tune. This is the system in use today in Western music, although many composers experiment with other tuning systems. Bach wrote The Well-Tempered Clavier in response to the very earliest experiments in equal temperament.
_________________________________

But the most important thing is that this series of Preludes and Fugues shows the depth and breadth of Bach’s imagination. Please plan to join NMPAS and Steinway Artist Jacquelyn Helin on Saturday evening, March 14, 2020 for a wonderful journey through the first half of Bach’s masterpiece!

Tickets to both events, including Reserved Seating options, are found at: nmpas.org/tickets/ If you’d like to purchase reserved seats, we recommend doing so early, because they tend to sell out quickly. You may also reserve by calling Hold My Ticket at 877-466-3404.

Please note that Premium seating in the first five rows of the Immaculate Heart Chapel is only available on a first-come, first-served basis. Only those with Premium Seating tickets and subscriptions may be seated in Rows 1-5 of the Chapel.

Coro de Cámara - concerts

Deck the Hall

Coro de Cámara presents Deck the Hall, a merry concert of holiday favorites. The program features choral arrangements of beloved songs of the season, such as "White Christmas," "The Christmas Song," and "I'll Be Home for Christmas," along with fresh, new settings of “Here We Come A-Caroling” and "Deck the Hall." "Sleigh Ride" and "The Sleigh (Á La Russe)" take the listener on a fun aural ride through the snow, while the Coro women remind us that "We Need a Little Christmas" through their singing of this popular selection from the musical, Mame. Concert pianist and Coro accompanist Natasha Stojanovska shares her amazing talents in a solo piano set, with guest appearances by singers Christina Martos and Carlos Archuleta.

The chamber chorus offers a free, 30-minute preview performance on Saturday, December 9 at 11:15am for Santa’s Arrival at the Santa Fe Railyard.

Full concert performances are:

-Saturday, December 16, 4:00 pm at First Presbyterian Church of Santa Fe (208 Grant Avenue), and
-Sunday, December 17, 3:00 pm at the Unitarian Church of Los Alamos (1738 North Sage Street).
